Ms. Lalida Peritswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, disclosed that the government is pressing ahead with the "Thai Helps Thai: Blue Flag Fights Floods" project to ease the cost-of-living impact on people in flood-hit areas, opening 20 distribution points across Bangkok from 9 to 18 October. Working with the Department of Internal Trade, manufacturers and the private sector, it is bringing 10 categories of goods, more than 30 items in all, into communities affected by flooding. Essential goods sold at special prices include rice, eggs, sugar and palm oil, while some household cleaning products are discounted by as much as 62%. In addition, the government plans to expand the "Thai Helps Thai: Cut the Cost of Living" project from October to December for a total of 3,036 events nationwide, to widen access to affordable essential goods, while safeguarding price stability and preventing opportunistic price hikes in the aftermath of the floods.
