Reliance Industries LimitedReliance's JioHotstar expands its streaming brand into the UK, Canada, and Singapore, targeting a South Asian diaspora audience of over 4 million.

JioHotstar, the streaming platform controlled by Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries, is taking its brand outside India for the first time, replacing Hotstar in the UK, Canada, and Singapore as it begins a wider global push. The service will launch with more than 160,000 hours of entertainment content but without live sports such as the Indian Premier League, Women's Premier League, and Indian national cricket matches, due to existing content deals, though JioStar did not rule out adding sports later. This marks a significant difference from its India offering, which boasts over 500 million monthly active users and relies heavily on sports. Starting September 2, Hotstar will cease to exist in those three markets, with existing credentials working on JioHotstar, available via app stores and connected TVs. JioHotstar will feature Indian films, TV originals, reality shows like Bigg Boss, and live TV channels under the Star banner, in 12 languages. The launch follows Reliance's 2024 merger of its media assets with Disney, forming an $8.5 billion joint venture, and targets a South Asian diaspora audience of over 4 million across the three countries. Pricing ranges from £19.99 quarterly in the UK to SG$69.98 annually in Singapore, with no sports included at launch.
