Summary · why it matters

Jupiter Neurosciences has signed a definitive licensing agreement with PharmAla Biotech for perpetual exclusive U.S. rights to ALA-002, a patented formulation of MDMA, in a deal valued at up to $100 million including milestones. The transaction transforms Jupiter into a dual clinical-stage CNS company, adding ALA-002 to its existing Phase II Parkinson's disease program for JOTROL, a proprietary enhanced bioavailability resveratrol formulation. Chairman and CEO Christer Rosén and President Alison Silva discussed the acquisition during a fireside chat hosted by IPO Edge, noting the primary indication for ALA-002, its addressable market size, and potential revenue relative to the acquisition cost. They also addressed the status of the Phase II Parkinson's trial, the evolving U.S. regulatory landscape for psychedelics, and key milestones across the company's portfolio.

Rua Bioscience and PharmAla sign MDMA distribution deal for New Zealand

Rua Bioscience Limited and PharmAla Biotech Holdings Inc. announced that Rua and PharmAla Biotech Inc., a subsidiary of PharmAla, have signed a distribution and licence agreement under which Rua will import, distribute and sell PharmAla's pharmaceutical-grade LaNeo MDMA in New Zealand. The agreement follows Medsafe's approval on 4 September 2026 of two psychiatrists to prescribe pharmaceutical-grade MDMA for post-traumatic stress disorder, making New Zealand only the second country, after Australia, to allow authorised psychiatrists to prescribe MDMA. Rua will supply PharmAla's 40 mg LaNeo MDMA capsules, manufactured to good manufacturing practice standards, to authorised prescribers in New Zealand, with the first shipment supplied on a consignment basis so Rua can enter the market with minimal upfront capital. PharmAla also announced that on September 1, 2026, PharmAla Biotech Inc. and JC Logistics Ltd t/a Veridion Group signed a termination and mutual release agreement ending, by mutual consent, their exclusive New Zealand distribution and license agreement dated September 21, 2025; Veridion held no PharmAla inventory, purchase orders or regulatory registrations, and no amounts are payable by either party in connection with the termination. Rua Chief Executive Officer Paul Naske said the deal adds a new product category to the business and positions Rua early in a field expected to grow, while PharmAla Chief Executive Officer Nicholas Kadysh said Rua has the licences, quality systems and prescriber relationships to deliver a reliable, GMP-grade supply from day one.

Lilly CEO Signals Bigger Deals in Hunt for Pharma's 'White Spaces'

Eli Lilly & Co. will pursue slightly larger acquisitions, along the lines of its $7.8 billion purchase of Centessa Pharmaceuticals Plc, as it searches for assets in the "white spaces" of science, Chief Executive Officer Dave Ricks said. Lilly, now the world's largest pharmaceutical company, has been on a record spending spree funded by its weight-loss and diabetes shots, and Ricks told Bloomberg that reinvesting in human health is more attractive than buying back shares or issuing dividends. He pointed to infectious disease, women's health and psychiatric conditions as areas of opportunity, noting the company acquired three vaccine-makers for as much as $3.8 billion earlier this year and recently agreed to buy psychedelics firm AtaiBeckley Inc. for about the same price. Lilly has completed about 40 deals so far this year, with a total value of more than $20 billion, the highest ever in a single year according to Bloomberg-compiled data. Ricks said the company favors more mature assets when they address brand new problems, a shift from its historical focus on earlier-stage, cheaper drugs.
