Nuclear energy stocks have slumped in the first half of 2026 after a strong 2025, with advanced reactor start-ups Oklo and NuScale Power down 27% and 30% year to date, respectively, while uranium miner Cameco is up 7% year to date but down 27% from its February peak. Oklo and NuScale have experienced larger price swings due to long implementation timelines for their technologies, with Oklo down 73% from its 52-week high and NuScale down 83%. Cameco, a mature company with high-grade mines in Canada and a 49% stake in Westinghouse, is positioned to benefit more immediately from growing uranium demand and the nuclear build-out. The long-term industry tailwinds remain in place, but advanced reactor technologies are not expected to operate at commercial scale until the 2030s.
BWX Technologies' BANR Microreactor Chosen for Indigenous-Led Plant in Canada
Prodigy Clean Energy, together with Pabineau First Nation and Eel River Bar First Nation, selected BWX Technologies' BANR microreactor technology for an Indigenous-owned, transportable nuclear power plant in Belledune, New Brunswick, targeting in-service operation in the early 2030s with modular, factory-built units. The project is backed by a Government of New Brunswick power offtake letter and advances BWXT's push into transportable microreactors that could underpin future deployments across remote Canadian regions and export markets. The selection gives BWXT another reference project for its microreactor catalyst, though it does not materially reduce risks around contract concentration, commercial margin pressure, or execution on its expanding capital program. Among other recent announcements, BWXT received a US$4 million preliminary design award from the NNSA for a new Lithium Processing Facility at Y 12, which together with the Belledune project feeds the same nuclear-focused backlog story. The company's narrative projects $4.8 billion revenue and $539.9 million earnings by 2029, requiring 10.7% yearly revenue growth and a $184.7 million earnings increase from $355.2 million today, while the most pessimistic analysts model revenue of about US$4.5 billion and earnings of roughly US$519 million by 2029.

Terrestrial Energy Submits TEF Topical Report to NRC for IMSR Plant
Terrestrial Energy Inc. announced on October 8, 2026 that it has submitted its Thermal and Electric Facility Topical Report to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. If approved, the TEF, which houses the generators, turbines, and steam supply systems of the Integral Molten Salt Reactor Plant, could be customized for each site and built and operated ahead of the plant's nuclear construction permit and operating license. The IMSR Plant is designed in two discrete parts: the Nuclear Facility, containing standardized and modular nuclear systems, and the TEF, containing non-nuclear heat transfer, steam supply and electric systems. With NRC approval, the TEF could enter commercial service ahead of the Nuclear Facility, using an auxiliary heat source such as natural gas as a bridge to nuclear power. The report asks the NRC to confirm that building the TEF is not nuclear construction under 10 CFR 50.10(a)(1), and it is the Company's third Topical Report submission of 2026, following NRC approval of its PIE and Principal Design Criteria Topical Reports in 2026 and 2025, respectively, and a September submission on graphite qualification methodology.

Needham Initiates Standard Nuclear at Buy With $18 Price Target
Needham initiated coverage of Standard Nuclear with a Buy rating and an $18 price target, sending shares up 10.8% in Tuesday's trading. Analyst Sean Milligan said the bullish thesis rests on the company's early operating and customer-acquisition advantage as the only merchant TRISO fuel fabricator currently making commercial shipments. He expects Standard Nuclear to replicate its modular production platform at SN-TN and SN-ID, converting a rapidly expanding commercial pipeline into funded backlog and scaling utilization as HALEU availability improves. Near-term proof points include U.S. Energy Department authorization, first qualified production from replicate facilities, and the Richland startup in 2027. Milligan noted that funded backlog rose from $8.2M to $119.3M in roughly five months, with total contract backlog of $576.9M and a qualified pipeline of $696M, adding that continued conversion should support utilization as new capacity comes online.
BWX Technologies Targets $5.5B-$6B 2030 Revenue After 27% Pullback
BWX Technologies held an investor day on September 29 where management laid out bullish long-term targets, after the stock fell 27% over the past three months. The company, which holds a virtual monopoly on naval nuclear reactors and fuel components for the U.S. Navy, said its total backlog has doubled to $8.4 billion, roughly nine quarters of contracted run rate, and projected 2026 revenue of $3.8 billion, about 98% of it from core nuclear activities. BWXT is selling a majority stake in its non-core medical isotope unit for up to $800 million while retaining a 20% interest, and is reallocating proceeds into nuclear manufacturing assets, including a 500,000-square-foot footprint expansion through the Precision Components Group acquisition. Its updated 2030 roadmap targets annual revenue of $5.5 billion to $6 billion on low double-digit compound organic growth, with adjusted EBITDA margins expanding from 17.5% to approximately 20% and cumulative free cash flow exceeding $2 billion through the end of the decade. The stock, which peaked above $241 and has traded down into the $130-$140 range, still carries a roughly 36x trailing and 27x forward price-to-earnings multiple, while hedge fund holders rose to 65 in the second quarter from 61 in the prior quarter and short interest sits at 4.42% of the public float.

NANO Nuclear Signs Definitive Agreement to Acquire NRC-Licensed U.S. Nuclear Fuel Processing Assets
NANO Nuclear Energy Inc. and its wholly owned subsidiary HALEU Energy Fuel Inc. have entered into a definitive asset purchase agreement with Radnostix, Inc., formerly International Isotopes Inc., and its subsidiary International Isotopes Fluorine Products, Inc. to acquire strategic U.S. nuclear fuel processing assets, including a U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission license and related intellectual property and technical materials tied to a previously planned depleted uranium hexafluoride deconversion and fluorine extraction facility in Lea County, New Mexico. Upon completion of the transaction and transfer of the NRC license, NANO Nuclear would own one of ten NRC-licensed fuel cycle facilities in the United States. Under the agreement, consideration at closing is $9.5 million in cash and $4.0 million in NANO common stock, with closing subject to NRC consent to the license transfer, other required approvals and consents including from New Mexico officials, satisfactory site arrangements and other closing conditions, and the parties currently expect closing in approximately 90 to 120 days. The NRC license was originally issued to construct and operate the DUF6 deconversion and fluorine extraction facility, which was never built, and the acquisition also includes related patented technology, engineering and safety analyses, regulatory and permitting materials, equipment and historical project development records. NANO Nuclear said the existing licensed asset could offer a significantly more efficient regulatory pathway than developing and licensing a comparable facility on a new site, and that no final investment decision has been made on the optimal commercial and development pathway for the acquired assets.
