Rianlon Corp has broken ground on a research and manufacturing base in Johor, Malaysia, its first major integrated facility outside of China, according to the Malaysian Investment Development Authority. The project is worth about $300 million, and its research center and production lines are scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027. The Tianjin-based fine chemicals maker, founded in 2003, said the site will place research, manufacturing and delivery closer to overseas customers while training a local team to run the operations. The base sits within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, established in January 2025, and Rianlon plans to staff it primarily with local employees backed by university partnerships, including a 900,000 yuan scholarship for Malaysian students at Tianjin University established in March. Chairman and CEO Li Haiping said the facility is not simply an overseas factory or a short-term response to tariffs or competition, but a long-term base for research, manufacturing and global delivery.
