Tencent Holdings LtdTencent weighs up to $5B offshore bond sale to fund its AI push, following June's $4.7B offering.

Tencent is considering an offshore bond sale of as much as $5 billion to help finance its expanding artificial-intelligence push, according to Bloomberg. The Chinese technology giant would issue the debt in U.S. dollars and offshore yuan, with the sale potentially coming as early as this month. The potential transaction follows Tencent's nearly $4.7 billion bond sale in June, its largest debt offering since 2020, and the company currently has about $22 billion of offshore notes outstanding with no public bonds maturing this year. Tencent shares fell 1.57% to HK$414, underperforming the broader Hang Seng Index, which declined 1.3%. The company is developing AI models aimed at competing with systems from DeepSeek and Moonshot AI, including the Hy4 model expected later this year.
