Ministry asks egg exporters to delay exports and farmers to hold farm-gate prices steady to preserve domestic supply, a supply-side intervention with mixed effect on the egg sector.
The Trade Policy and Strategy Office of the Ministry of Commerce assesses that the flood situation in 2026 continues to have only a limited effect on goods prices, with no broad-based price increases yet observed. Nantapong Jiralertpong, Director of the Trade Policy and Strategy Office, disclosed that tracking of goods prices at modern trade outlets in late September 2026 found that more than 70% of the items monitored held their prices steady, 12.4% increased, and 16.9% decreased. Items with steady prices included bananas, papayas, and pineapples, while items that fell in price included pork and chicken. Cilantro, morning glory, and cucumbers were among those that rose in price. Some fresh vegetables, such as Chinese morning glory, holy basil, and sweet basil, still face price pressure from their short shelf life and transport constraints. The Department of Internal Trade is therefore accelerating the flow of vegetables from unaffected production areas into central markets on a continuous basis, and wholesale prices for several vegetable items have begun to decline. As for eggs, the Ministry of Commerce has asked exporters to cooperate by slowing and postponing export plans, and has asked farmers to hold farm-gate egg prices steady in order to preserve domestic supply and price stability. The Trade Policy and Strategy Office assesses that the impact of the floods still has no significant effect on overall inflation, forecasting headline inflation for all of 2026 at 1.8–2.2%, with a midpoint of 2.0%. The Ministry of Commerce is preparing to launch the "Thai Help Thai, Blue Flag, Reduce Cost of Living" project, targeting more than 1,000 events covering all 77 provinces nationwide.
