Summary · why it matters

Trinity Industries said it will fully defend against an antidumping and countervailing duty petition filed by UTLX Manufacturing LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, targeting imports of railway tank cars from Mexico. UTLX filed the petition with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. International Trade Commission. Trinity said it is reviewing the petition with its legal and trade counsel and intends to participate fully in both the Commerce and ITC proceedings, defending its position at every stage. The company said it has produced more than 73,000 tank cars in the United States over the last 15 years and employs more than 2,500 U.S.-based workers supporting the tank car industry across its Longview, Texas manufacturing facility and maintenance shops nationwide, serving more than 800 U.S.-based shippers. Trinity added that its Monclova, Mexico facility has been part of its North American manufacturing network since 1998 and that it is a significant purchaser of American-made steel shipped to Mexico for incorporation into the tank cars UTLX alleges are dumped and subsidized. Trinity said it believes a full examination of the facts will show its operations are legitimate, high-quality manufacturing and that the petition is not supported by the evidence or the law.
