Summary · why it matters

AIS has announced the expansion of its 5G-Advanced upload network to cover 100% of its service area across Bangkok, making the Thai capital the first city in the world with citywide 5G-Advanced upload coverage. The rollout uses Uplink 2CC technology on the 2600 MHz and 700 MHz bands over a 5G Standalone, or 5G SA, network, boosting maximum upload speeds by up to two times, and the company plans to extend the capability to the main district of all 77 provinces nationwide. Kittit Ngamjettanarom, AIS's Chief Technology Officer, said the expansion is not only about speed but about preparing infrastructure to support an AI-driven economy and laying the foundation for Thailand to connect to new opportunities as an ASEAN AI Connectivity Hub. AIS customers with compatible devices can experience 5G-Advanced without signing up for an additional package. AIS is also developing Downlink 3CC by combining the 2600 MHz, 700 MHz and 2100 MHz bands to raise maximum download speeds by up to 1.5 times, which currently covers most of Bangkok, with a target of full citywide coverage by the end of 2026.
