Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company LimitedAn electrical short circuit damaged the Blue Line's power and signalling systems, forcing service suspension and costly repairs, though normal service resumes 21 September 2026.

Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited, or BEM, has confirmed it is ready to resume normal service on the Blue Line at all stations on 21 September 2026, following an electrical short circuit on the tracks of the Metropolitan Rapid Transit Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line between Tao Poon station and Bang Pho station on Sunday, 20 September 2026. An investigation carried out together with the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand found that the cause was a spark from a set of 750-volt direct current cables, which damaged the power supply system and the signalling system. Initially the company suspended service on the Blue Line and the Purple Line and evacuated passengers safely from the stations, before finding that the Purple Line was unaffected and could resume normal service. For the Blue Line, BEM mobilised teams of engineers and specialists to inspect, rectify and repair the affected systems continuously over a 12-hour period, covering the signalling system, the SCADA system, the communications system, the cabling system and the third rail power supply system. It then carried out detailed system testing, including running two inspection trains along the entire route on both sides of the incident site. The inspections found no further damage affecting the safety of train operations. The company is preparing to tighten inspections and maintenance of the relevant systems, especially during the rainy season, to prevent a similar incident from recurring.
