Daiwa Securities announced on the 5th that unauthorized access to a server at an outsourcing contractor may have leaked customer information for about 110,000 people. The potentially leaked information includes names, email addresses and account numbers, and when inquiries and other data that cannot identify individuals are included, the total reaches about 220,000 records. In connection with this, Finance Minister and Financial Services Minister Satsuki Katayama said at a press conference after the Cabinet meeting on the 6th that proper management of customer information is extremely important from the standpoint of protecting personal information and ensuring the credibility of financial institutions. She added that the company's response will be closely monitored and that it must ensure trust is not lost.
