Fifth Third Bancorp announced that Darren King, executive vice president, has been named head of the Commercial Bank, which now includes the Regional Banking business he already leads. King had led the Commercial Bank on an interim basis since June. The combined Commercial Bank is significantly larger than it was a year ago, as the combination with Comerica increased Fifth Third's middle market sales force by more than 75% and strengthened its industry specialties, including Innovation Banking, environmental services and equity fund finance. Chairman, CEO and president Tim Spence said King has led the Commercial Bank through one of the most consequential periods in its history and has earned the opportunity to build what comes next. King joined Fifth Third in 2025 as head of Regional Banking and Wealth Management, after spending 24 years at M&T Bank, where he served as chief financial officer, head of consumer banking, head of business banking and ultimately co-head of business.
