Otis Brazil has completed a comprehensive modernization of the three elevators at Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro and has begun installing four new escalators and two inclined elevators to improve accessibility to the monument. The three Otis Gen2 elevators, which transport visitors between levels of Alto Corcovado, received new machinery, controls, signage, fixtures, and buttons. The four new Otis Public Escalators, designed for outdoor durability, will replace the existing escalators, while the two custom inclined elevators will provide access for passengers with limited mobility who previously could not use the escalators or stairs. Otis originally installed the elevators and escalators at the site in 2003 and has maintained them since, with this upgrade commissioned by concessionaire Trem do Corcovado under a revitalization plan by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation.
