Summary · why it matters

After the National Day holiday, the A-share plague-concept sector strengthened collectively, but multiple listed companies responded that plague-related products generally account for a low share of revenue, and some companies do not even have directly related products. After the market opened on October 8, North China Pharmaceutical, Daan Gene, Rundu Pharmaceutical, Vland Biotech, and Lianhuan Pharmaceutical all briefly hit the 10 percent daily limit up. ZBD Pharmaceutical, Biotest Biotech, and Lukang Pharmaceutical also posted gains of more than 5 percent. The moves then diverged, and only North China Pharmaceutical sealed the daily limit up. On October 9, North China Pharmaceutical achieved two consecutive daily limit ups, closing at 6.03 yuan, up 10.04 percent, with a turnover rate of 6.75 percent and turnover of 688 million yuan. Zhonghong Medical closed at 23.36 yuan, up 19.98 percent, with a turnover rate of 8.91 percent and turnover of 732 million yuan. North China Pharmaceutical said in an announcement that streptomycin sulfate for injection is one of its traditional antibiotic products, and that sales revenue in 2025 and the first half of 2026 was relatively small and would not have a material impact on the company's overall operating performance. It also flagged that its latest rolling price-to-earnings ratio was 83.84 times, significantly higher than the 26.71 times level for the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry. Rundu Pharmaceutical said moxifloxacin hydrochloride tablets account for a relatively low share of overall revenue. Daan Gene said sales of its Yersinia pestis nucleic acid detection kit still account for a relatively small share of overall revenue. Zhonghong Medical said the proportion of exports to Russia is not particularly high and has no direct connection to the suspected plague case incident. Vland Biotech said it was not aware of any company plans or research and development projects related to products for treating plague. There is still no confirmed plague diagnosis in the incident. Wang Xinyu, deputy director of the infectious disease department at Huashan Hospital, said that the death of a worker and the quarantine of contacts cannot be directly equated with a confirmed plague diagnosis, and still less can they directly prove a laboratory leak.
