Amazon.com announced on the 8th a new tablet device, the Amazon Alexa Tablet. It comes with the built-in voice assistant Alexa Plus, allowing users to access artificial intelligence features and operate the device simply by speaking to it. Orders have begun in the United States and elsewhere, with shipping starting on the 14th, but a launch in Japan has not been disclosed. The top-of-the-line 12 Pro features a 12-inch display and starts at 499.99 dollars. Speaking to it activates the voice assistant, which can answer questions and control appliances and other devices, and the AI can also recognize information shown on the screen, making it possible to search for products that appear in a video being watched. The company's tablets had previously used its own in-house operating system, but the Alexa Tablet runs on Google's Android OS and supports Google's app store, giving users access to a wide variety of apps.
