The whole world — stairs, doorknobs, hand tools, assembly lines — is designed around 'the human body.' So if you want a robot to work in our world without rebuilding every factory from scratch, the most direct path is to give it a 'human shape.' But this is the hardest problem in the field — and right now it's genuinely just beginning. There are tons of jaw-dropping demos, but the things actually in use you can still count on your fingers.

Tesla locks in $30B credit and cuts Optimus chip memory to scale production

  • Tesla secures $30B credit lines for Optimus and new factories Tesla lined up $30 billion in new credit from Citibank and Wells Fargo to fund scaling of Optimus, Cybercab and Semi. It does not plan to draw this year, but the money backs dedicated factories and mass production, strengthening the theme's capital base.

New, large-scale funding directly supports the most visible humanoid program and the theme's capital story.

  • Tesla halves Optimus chip memory to hit production volume Musk said Tesla cut memory on its AI5 and AI6 chips to get enough volume for Optimus, calling it the only way to scale and cut cost. This shows real production focus, but also that supply constraints are forcing design compromises.

New detail on how Tesla is solving supply bottlenecks for Optimus, a key test of mass production.

  • Micron flags humanoid robots as next big memory demand driver Micron's CEO said humanoid robots will need over 200GB of memory and terabytes of storage each, similar to self-driving cars, and could become a major demand driver by 2030. This adds a new supplier voice to the theme's growth story.

New demand signal from a major chipmaker, showing the theme is pulling in the broader tech supply chain.

  • China raises IPO bar, few humanoid startups qualify China's securities regulator set three criteria for humanoid robot IPOs, including sustainable revenue and core technology. Few or no startups may qualify, constraining access to public capital just as investment in the sector hit $6.95 billion in Q2.

New regulatory hurdle that could slow funding for many Chinese humanoid startups, a real counterweight.

Wedbush analyst Dan Ives reiterates Outperform and $500 Tesla target on physical AI bet

Yorkville Ives analyst Dan Ives reiterated his Outperform rating and $500 price target on Tesla, arguing autonomy, robotaxis and Optimus humanoid robots will increasingly drive the company's value. "We view Tesla as one of the clearest ways to own physical AI in the public markets," Ives wrote, adding that investors valuing Tesla primarily as an automaker are pricing a fleet rather than the platform being built on top of it. He calls Full Self-Driving the bridge between today's car business and tomorrow's autonomy business, with an attach rate above 55% on new North American EV sales, while Tesla's robotaxi service now operates in six US cities with paid miles approaching 2.5 million and a 5,000-vehicle Nevada permit gives it a path to a much larger fleet. Using a sum-of-the-parts valuation based on 2028 revenue estimates, Ives values Tesla's existing businesses at about $165 per share as a car company and assigns the remaining $335 to autonomy and Optimus, meaning roughly two-thirds of his price target rests on businesses still in their early stages. He flags risks including that only 45 Cybercabs are authorized for driverless operation in Texas, that Tesla expects about 2,500 vehicles in Nevada in year one, half of what the permit allows, and that NHTSA issued a Special Order on Cybercab's self-certification with Tesla's sworn response due September 30th.

Musk Says Tesla Halved Optimus Memory to Scale Production as Micron Sees 200GB Robots

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Thursday that Tesla cut the memory specifications on its next-generation Optimus robot chips to scale production, after Micron Technology CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said humanoid robots could require hundreds of gigabytes of memory and storage each. In a post on X, Musk said Tesla cut the AI5 chip's memory in half to 72GB and the AI6 chip's memory by a third to 144GB, calling it the only way to get enough volume for Optimus production and saying it greatly reduces cost. He added that the cuts should have a negligible effect on Optimus performance, as memory bandwidth is a bigger limiting factor than total memory capacity. On Micron's fiscal fourth-quarter earnings call on Wednesday, Mehrotra said humanoid robots are expected to need more than 200 gigabytes of memory and multiple terabytes of storage per unit, similar to autonomous vehicles, and that physical AI could become a significant driver of memory and storage demand by the end of the decade. Tesla has reportedly placed its first large-scale component order for roughly 5,000 Optimus units and is auditing Chinese suppliers ahead of production, with the company aiming to eventually build 1 million Optimus units a year.

BTIG: Half-Size Robots Dominate Humanoid Shipments, Only 32% Full-Size

BTIG analyst Jesse Sobelson said the humanoid robot industry has split into two largely separate product classes, with half-size systems, mostly Chinese, measuring roughly 94–138 cm and weighing 12–40 kg, and full-size machines generally standing 165–190 cm tall and weighing 47–90 kg. BTIG estimates that major players Unitree and AgiBot had built approximately 31K humanoids through June, of which only about 9.8K, or 32%, were full-size units of any type, and full-size bipeds represented only about 13% of cumulative production. Sobelson warned that industry shipment figures can be misleading if interpreted as evidence of broad adoption of human-scale robotic labor, since many of the estimated +40K cumulative shipments through mid-2026 were smaller, lower-cost Chinese units rather than industrial-grade humanoid bipeds. Hangzhou-based Unitree's smaller R1 and G1 products are priced approximately from $4,900 to $21,500 depending on configuration, and BTIG expects Unitree's 2026 shipments to at least double from around 6,000 in 2025, while the company plans for an annual capacity of 30K units. Tesla is the major potential challenger to the current half-size dominance, with BTIG saying Tesla anticipated Optimus production at Fremont later in 2026 but warned that initial output would be slow because the new line includes about 10K unique parts; Sobelson views Tesla, along with Figure, 1X, and Boston Dynamics, as the key players if there is to be a future shift toward full-size systems.

Micron CEO flags self-driving cars and humanoid robots as next memory demand driver

Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said on the company's Q4 earnings call that physical AI, starting with self-driving cars and expanding to humanoid robots, could become a significant driver of memory and storage demand by the end of this decade. In its Q4 report on Wednesday, Micron reported earnings per share of $33.42, up 1,002% from $3.03 in the same quarter last year, while revenue climbed 379% to $54.23 billion from $11.31 billion in Q4 2025. Mehrotra said memory content in level 4 and higher autonomous vehicles typically exceeds 200 gigabytes, with storage reaching multiple terabytes, each more than an order of magnitude greater than in today's level two plus and level three semi-autonomous vehicles. He added that humanoid robots will have similar memory and storage requirements, which could serve as an additional revenue opportunity. Companies working on humanoid robots include Tesla, Figure, Hyundai's Boston Dynamics, Unitree Robotics, and Agility Robotics, though Reuters reported only 7,000 humanoid robots were sold globally in 2025 for industrial and professional services.

Tesla Delivers Over 486,000 EVs in Third Quarter, Beating Estimates

Tesla delivered more than 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter, beating Wall Street's consensus estimates and even the most optimistic view for the company. The company said Friday morning that it built 464,391 vehicles in the quarter, an increase of roughly 6,000 deliveries compared to the second quarter, though sales were still down from the same period last year, when Tesla delivered 497,000 vehicles. That quarter, Tesla's best ever, was helped by a rush of U.S. buyers looking to take advantage of an expiring federal tax credit. Before Friday's numbers were released, Tesla's U.S. sales were down nearly 20% year-over-year in the U.S. market, according to Cox Automotive, amid the absence of new consumer models and buyer backlash over Elon Musk's political activities. Tesla has looked to other markets to make up for lost U.S. sales, with sales rising again in Europe and continued strong sales out of its factory in China, and earlier this week the company announced it had secured up to $30 billion in new lines of credit to support projects including the Cybercab, the Tesla Semi, the second-generation Roadster, and the Optimus humanoid robot.

Innodata Opens New Jersey Motion-Capture Lab for Physical AI

Innodata Inc. has opened a motion-capture research and development laboratory in New Jersey aimed at training humanoids, industrial robots and other physical AI systems. Developed with Vicon, the facility uses high-precision infrared optical tracking cameras capable of measuring movement at sub-millimeter accuracy, capturing 3D movement directly rather than inferring it from 2D video. Customers can purchase off-the-shelf motion-capture datasets, commission customized projects or send robots to the lab for independent performance testing, and Innodata can also provide external validation of robots' internal telemetry. The move builds on Innodata's earlier robotics initiatives, including successful egocentric data-collection pilots with leading robotics companies during the second quarter, when revenues rose 58% year over year to $92.1 million and adjusted EBITDA increased 92% to $25.4 million. Innodata also reiterated its expectation for at least 40% revenue growth in 2026, though the company said the pace at which pilot projects convert into large commercial programs will be critical.

Anthropic Study Says Robots Need 40 Years to Take 10% of Job Tasks

A new study from the AI company Anthropic suggests it will take 40 years for robots to replace just 10% of job tasks if robot prices decline along past trends, a timeline that clashes with the more bullish scenarios of Nvidia and Tesla. At CES in January 2026, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang predicted a coming "ChatGPT moment" for robotics in the form of agents, self-driving cars, and humanoid robots, while Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said the company's Optimus robot will go on sale as early as next year and envisions a future where every household has a robot. A Morgan Stanley research report from 2025 forecasts that the market for humanoid robots could surpass $5 trillion by 2050, with adoption likely to accelerate in the late 2030s on improved tech, a friendlier regulatory environment, and popular support. The Anthropic report argues that beyond price, factors including capabilities, preferences, and regulations pose further barriers to robot automation, and Apollo chief economist Torsten Sløk echoed that "even under aggressive projections, widespread physical labor displacement will take decades." The disparity underscores the tension between the rapid pace of software development and the slow progress of hardware, leaving open whether robots will become commoditized gadgets or premium products with constrained supply.

Tesla Sell Ratings Fall to 13.1% as Wall Street Pessimism Eases

Wall Street's bearish stance on Tesla is shrinking even as the stock sits down 21% so far this year, with sell ratings now at 13.1% of 61 analyst recommendations, the lowest share since April 2023 and down from 23.3% in January. That shift does not signal broad optimism, as hold ratings have climbed to their highest level in more than two years while analysts wait for Tesla's robotaxi, humanoid robot and other AI ambitions to generate meaningful revenue. JPMorgan analyst Rajat Gupta cut his price target to $415 from $445 while keeping a neutral rating, and lowered his third-quarter delivery estimate to 482,000 vehicles from 516,000, citing weaker-than-expected deliveries in China and the United States. The result is that Tesla's valuation now hinges more on whether businesses beyond electric cars can produce significant profits. Investors will next watch vehicle deliveries and evidence that Tesla's robotics, AI and autonomous driving efforts can begin contributing to earnings.

Agility and FORT Robotics Sign MOU to Advance Digit 5 Humanoid Safety

Agility Robotics and FORT Robotics signed a memorandum of understanding on October 1, 2026, outlining a strategic partnership to advance the safety infrastructure of Digit 5, Agility's next-generation humanoid robot engineered for cooperatively safe work at scale. The partnership deepens a multi-year engagement that has grown from a single custom hardware component into an integrated, three-part safety architecture consisting of a safety pendant, on-robot communications, and off-robot interfaces connecting Digit with external safety systems. The off-robot interface, jointly developed by FORT and Agility and known as the Offboard Safety Bridge, is designed to extend Agility's cooperative-safety approach beyond the robot itself, complementing the onboard safety architecture already planned for Digit 5. The two companies will also establish a broader operating framework covering joint hardware development, solutions engineering, regulatory compliance, and deployment support as Digit 5 begins deployment and scales into more complex commercial environments such as warehouses, manufacturing, and logistics. Digit 5's predecessors have already logged more than 65,000 hours of operation and have been deployed at customer sites including Schaeffler, GXO, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada. Agility CTO Pras Velagapudi said every layer added with FORT has made Digit's safety system more resilient, while FORT founder and CEO Samuel Reeves said formalizing the strategic partnership reflects how central that architecture has become to getting humanoid robots to work safely in close proximity with people.

Tesla Lines Up $30 Billion in New Loans and Credit Lines

Tesla Inc. has lined up $30 billion of new loans and credit lines as the electric-car maker dials up investments in artificial intelligence and robotics. The company said it entered three credit agreements: a $20 billion term loan it can draw on later, an $8 billion line of credit for five years, and a $2 billion line of credit for about one year. The facilities replace a previous $5 billion of line of credit that was set to mature in January 2028, and Tesla said it doesn't currently plan to draw on any of them this year. Citigroup is administrative agent for the new delayed-draw term loan, while Wells Fargo & Co. is administrative agent for the credit lines. Tesla plans to spend more than $25 billion this year to expand its factory operations and its fleet of autonomous Cybercab robotaxis, and Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk said on the company's July earnings call that it should spend on capex as fast as it can without being too wasteful. Under the new credit lines, Tesla has the option to increase commitments by as much as $4 billion, potentially increasing the facilities to $14 billion total.

Ross Gerber Criticizes Tesla Over Advertising as Delivery Report Looms

Investor Ross Gerber has renewed his criticism of Tesla, questioning management's focus on autonomous driving and robotics projects relative to near-term car demand and brand investment, and faulting the company's lack of advertising despite high gasoline prices. Analysts and traders are watching Tesla's upcoming vehicle delivery report, with market expectations pointing to a year-on-year decline. Gerber's pushback does not rewrite the current bull case, which leans on high-margin autonomy, FSD subscriptions and Energy Generation and Storage, but it sharpens the fault line over whether management attention stays locked on long-dated projects like robotaxis and humanoid robots while near-term car demand and brand building go under served. The clearest test will be the upcoming delivery print and what Tesla says immediately after it about demand trends, advertising plans, and autonomy or robotics spending. A shift toward concrete commentary on marketing, order intake and how much capital is flowing to autonomy versus the core auto and energy businesses would pull the balance back toward the bull side.

China Sets Three Criteria for Humanoid Robot IPOs, Few Startups Qualify

China's securities regulator is raising the bar for public listings of humanoid robot startups, requiring them to meet three specific criteria under "window guidance," according to three sources familiar with the CSRC's thinking. The requirements are sustainable revenue and commercial orders, narrowing losses with one source citing a need for a three-year forecast, and possession of core technology such as a robotic brain or hands. Even if a startup only has to meet two of the three criteria, as one source indicated, it is unclear which, if any, of the companies can do so, lowering expectations to just a handful, or none, of these startups reaching public markets. At least two dozen humanoid-related embodied AI companies have filed to list in Hong Kong alone, and mainland Chinese companies wanting to list there also need the CSRC's blessing. The scrutiny follows Unitree's regulatory fast-track listing in Shanghai on Aug. 19, in which it raised about 6.1 billion yuan, or $905 million, with shares skyrocketing more than 460% in their debut to close at 845 yuan before nearly halving to 459.65 yuan as of Monday, while Hong Kong-listed Ubtech has tumbled more than 40% this year. Investment in the sector hit 47.09 billion yuan, or $6.95 billion, in the second quarter, more than double the first quarter and up over six times versus the same period last year, according to industry data provider Xiniu.

KCE surges 11%, broker sets new target at 104 baht on AI-S Curve tailwinds and Tesla order hopes

KCE shares jumped 11.07% to 75.25 baht, up 7.50 baht, with trading value of 2.357 billion baht as of 10:50 a.m., from an opening price of 71.25 baht, a high of 75.25 baht and a low of 71.25 baht. This morning also saw a big lot of 150,000 KCE shares worth 11.89 million baht trade at an average price of 79.25 baht, above the board price. Kiatnakin Phatra Securities, together with BofA Global Research, initiated coverage of KCE Electronics with a buy rating and raised its target price to 104.00 baht, based on a target P/E of 38.1 times, from 67.75 baht previously. It expects net profit to recover 95% year on year to 1.529 billion baht in 2026, surge 110% year on year to 3.212 billion baht in 2027, 69% above market expectations, and reach 4.174 billion baht in 2028. The drivers include the recovery cycle in the PCB industry, the growing electronic content in electric vehicles and software-defined vehicles, indirect benefits from the AI wave that is tightening automotive PCB supply, LEO communications satellites whose revenue share is expected to rise to 16% in 2027 and 30% in 2028 of total PCB revenue, and humanoid robots, with management confirming it is in talks with Tesla, having passed some qualification tests and awaiting final design approval. BofA expects the global humanoid robot market to be worth 100 billion US dollars by 2033, with global shipments growing nearly fivefold from 290,000 units in 2027 to 1.2 million units by 2030. Meanwhile, Sureeporn Teewasuwet, assistant managing director of the securities analysis department at FSS International, sees second-half profit better than the first half after KCE raised PCB prices from the second quarter of 2026 on higher raw material prices such as copper and fiberglass, together with AI-driven PCB demand that is diverting supply. She recommends trading the stock, maintains a target price of 61.00 baht, and warns investors to be cautious in 2027 because new PCB supply will start to gradually come on stream in the second half of 2027.

Musk's Big Week Meets Wall Street Reality Check as JPMorgan Cuts Tesla Estimates

Elon Musk is having a major week across his companies, with a Starship flight launched, an upcoming Falcon 9 mission, and the unveiling of the Tesla Roadster, but Wall Street is signaling concern ahead of Tesla's delivery report. JPMorgan cut its earnings estimates for Tesla for 2026 and 2027, and other analysts have also lowered their estimates into the delivery report. According to Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi, the delivery number is expected to be weak, and the fact that analysts are cutting estimates even further suggests the report could surprise to the downside and pressure the stock. JPMorgan also expressed concern about what Musk might say regarding capital expenditures when Tesla reports earnings, given the company's aggressive investment in AI, data centers, robots, and the Tesla Semi. The Roadster, which reports suggest may be priced over $250,000, is seen as a halo car meant to drive excitement for the rest of Tesla's business.

Toyota Weighs $6.4 Billion Annual Factory Automation Push From 2028

Toyota Motor Corporation estimates that modernizing its factories could require about 1 trillion yen, or $6.4 billion, annually from 2028, covering Toyota, group companies, and major suppliers. The company told investors that roughly 400,000 robots, including humanoid and conventional machines, could be needed to replace existing equipment and add new automation capabilities, spanning industrial robots, automated logistics, and human-robot collaboration. Toyota has not committed to spending the full amount or specified how long the investment would continue. The figure would be roughly three times Toyota's FY2026 additions to fixed assets of 1.88 trillion yen, though it includes group companies and major suppliers and is therefore not directly comparable with Toyota's consolidated capital spending. Toyota generated 4.74 trillion yen in operating cash flow in FY2026, and its operating margin declined to 7.4% in FY2026 from 10.0% in FY2025 and 11.9% in FY2024. Hyundai plans to deploy humanoid robots at a U.S. plant from 2028, while Chinese automakers including BYD, Geely and Chery continue to pressure Toyota's joint ventures in China.

Tesla's Optimus Robot Faces Hand-Manufacturing Bottleneck, The Information Reports

Tesla is struggling to scale production of its Optimus humanoid robot because the intricate mechanical complexity of the robot's hands has become a primary manufacturing bottleneck, according to The Information. Tesla has multiplied its production tenfold in recent months, jumping from several dozen units per week in the second quarter to several hundred today, but supplier constraints, automated equipment failures, and the complex assembly required for the robot's hands are challenging its aggressive goal of building 1,000 robots per week by year-end, on the way to an eventual target of 20,000 weekly units. The current Fremont-built model, Optimus V3, sports a lighter chassis, enhanced camera arrays, and a more human-like aesthetic than its predecessors, and is driven by an AI trained on over 500,000 hours of real-world data, though it remains restricted to tightly programmed, specific tasks in supervised Palo Alto testing zones and factory floors rather than operating autonomously as a general-purpose machine. Because V3 is not the final consumer version and still requires significant leaps in durability, Tesla is opting for a tightly controlled commercial rollout in which early commercial units will be leased rather than sold to customers, with warehouse environments mirroring Tesla's own, so the company can physically retrieve the hardware for necessary mechanical upgrades while continuously harvesting factory data to refine the AI. CEO Elon Musk continues to position Optimus as Tesla's most important product, projecting that full commercial sales could begin by late 2027, provided the company can overcome the complex realities of manufacturing human-like hands at scale.

Toyota Plans 400,000 Humanoid Robots Across Global Plants

Toyota Motor plans to deploy about 400,000 in-house developed humanoid robots across its global plants over the medium term. The automaker intends to roll out these humanoid units across multiple manufacturing lines to support assembly and material handling tasks, positioning the large-scale robotics program as a core pillar of future factory automation within its worldwide operations. The push supports Toyota's effort to improve operational efficiency and production flexibility across its 10 million unit annual capacity goal, and comes as peers like Hyundai invest in their own humanoid fleets. Investors still do not know how much capex and running cost the 400,000 units will absorb, or how quickly any efficiency gains might offset that spend. The key marker to watch next is Toyota's upcoming capital expenditure disclosures and medium-term production efficiency targets, especially any quantified savings or output metrics tied directly to humanoid deployment.

Tesla Earns Fitch BBB Rating as 2026 AI Capex Tops $25 Billion

Tesla received a BBB investment-grade rating from Fitch, completing the trio alongside Moody's and S&P, and shares gained to $376.25 Tuesday. The electric-vehicle and physical-AI company expects more than $25 billion in 2026 capital expenditures as it pours money into AI computing, data centers, production lines and AI-powered vehicles. That spending floor represents roughly 57% of the $43.52 billion in cash, investments and equivalents reported for the second quarter. The balance sheet is strong, but the investment bill is enormous, and Tesla's $376.25 share price stands 12.64% above its GF Value estimate of $334.02. Investment-grade status could widen Tesla's financing options just as Cybercab and Optimus demand serious capital, but it says nothing about future borrowing costs or eventual returns.

Tesla Audits Chinese Suppliers as Optimus Robot Nears Mass Production

Tesla Inc. is auditing its suppliers in China as the Elon Musk-led EV maker prepares to ramp up production of its Optimus humanoid robot, according to a report from Chinese media outlet The Paper citing anonymous sources. The audit covers suppliers including Tuopu Group, Sanhua Intelligent Control and Joyson Electronics, which provide actuators, joint modules and other components, and is aimed at compliance and quality checks before production begins. The sources said the companies had already received Optimus orders before the audits started. Tesla did not immediately respond to Benzinga's request for comment. Musk has repeatedly stated a goal of producing 1 million Optimus units annually at scale, and Tesla has ended production of the premium Model S and Model X at its Fremont, California plant to build the Optimus line there instead. Tesla VP of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy confirmed the Fremont facility would have at least 40 different production lines for the robot, given its complex design and architecture.

Following a visit to Tesla's Austin operations, Rusch said the company pointed to finalizing the hardware design for Optimus's initial ramp and is targeting first commercial revenue in late 2027, but he wrote that Street expectations for humanoid revenue scale-up are overly optimistic, citing hardware and operating software complexity and supply chain preparedness. Rusch, who rates Tesla at Perform, was more upbeat on other parts of the business, saying the Cybercab is ramping and driving manufacturing costs materially lower, with a modular design enabling parallel production and up to 40% mass reduction, and describing Tesla's 50% to 60% robotaxi cost advantage as becoming a reality. He also flagged Tesla's push into semiconductor manufacturing as bold but critically important, with a pilot facility tracking toward a $25 billion-plus capital spending target. Oppenheimer kept its 2026 revenue estimate at $105 billion but trimmed 2027 to $108.8 billion, reflecting the slower Optimus ramp offset by faster Cybercab production.

IFR reports global humanoid robot sales reached 7,000 units in 2025

The International Federation of Robotics, or IFR, reported that global sales of humanoid robots for industrial and professional service use came to about 7,000 units last year, making it one of the first industry statistical reports to record data on this category of robot. It is the first time the IFR has begun officially collecting data on humanoid robots, after gathering robotics statistics for more than three decades. The figures exclude consumer and military robots, while medical robots are counted in a separate category. IFR Secretary General Susanne Bieller told Reuters that the current number of humanoid robots is still only a tiny fraction of the overall robot population. In 2024, about 542,000 conventional industrial robots were installed worldwide, along with roughly 199,000 commercial service robots for use in transport, hospitality and cleaning. Bieller added that most humanoid robots sold in 2025 have not yet been put to work generating actual output, but were bought by research institutions or technology companies to collect data and train artificial intelligence models. Automakers, the pioneering customer group, are still only testing them in factories in single-digit or low double-digit numbers. Bank of America Global Research estimates that growth will accelerate rapidly, forecasting that global humanoid robot deliveries will jump to 90,000 units this year and could reach 1.2 million units by 2030. The full 2025 statistical report on industrial and service robots will be published officially on September 24.

XPeng Fair Value Cut to US$19.06 as Analysts Split on Growth and Execution

Simply Wall St lowered its fair value estimate for XPeng to US$19.06 from US$22.36, as updated Street targets for the Chinese automaker now range roughly between US$12 and US$24. JPMorgan, Citi and BofA all kept positive ratings while trimming their price targets into the US$18 to US$24 range, with JPMorgan cutting from US$27 to US$24 and UBS moving from US$18 to US$12. UBS highlighted XPeng as an emerging Chinese automaker in humanoid robotics, pointing to a robotics capital raise of over US$900m at a valuation above US$6.3b as longer term optionality beyond the core auto business, while Barclays pointed to the L03 model as important for second half 2026 results and for XPeng reaching 10,000 overseas deliveries by Q4. On the bearish side, UBS and Barclays flagged pressure on the core auto business from intense competition, supply chain issues, short product cycles and lower than expected Q3 guidance, and BofA reduced its 2026 to 2028 volume assumptions by mid single digit percentages. The revised model also adjusted CN¥ revenue growth to 19.66% from 21.95%, net profit margin to 2.46% from 3.44%, future P/E to 56.08x from 44.61x, and the discount rate to 12.88% from 12.04%.

Citrini Research Finds Humanoid Robots Advancing Without a Single ChatGPT Moment

Humanoid robots are making meaningful progress in autonomy, dexterity and repetitive real-world tasks, but widespread commercial deployment remains a work in progress, according to a report published Wednesday by Citrini Research. After a week meeting robotics labs, engineers and investors across the San Francisco Bay Area, the firm found most humanoid robots remain in development, training and tele-operated demonstrations, with real-world deployments closer to pilots than clear return-on-investment opportunities. The report examined whether robotics is approaching its own ChatGPT moment and highlighted advances from GeneralistAI and Skild AI, along with Figure AI's demonstration involving 250,000 packages, suggesting the field may advance through a mosaic of signals rather than one defining breakthrough. Basic humanoid locomotion is effectively a solved problem while complex dexterity remains more difficult, and simple repetitive tasks are already trainable. Investment in the broader robotics infrastructure is keeping pace: Tesla Inc has been preparing production lines for Optimus, XPeng Inc has launched an automated production line for its IRON humanoid robot, and Figure AI is securing access to up to 100,000 Vera Rubin GPUs from NVIDIA Corp to train the models powering its humanoid robots. The report concluded robotic autonomy is developing along a curve rather than arriving through one decisive breakthrough, with broad generalizability remaining the longer-term goal.

Spirit AI aims to deliver humanoid robots that respond to verbal commands as early as next year

Gao Yang, co-founder and chief scientist of Chinese startup Spirit AI, told Reuters that humanoid robots capable of handling most basic tasks on verbal command could become a reality as early as next year. "By mid-2027, you will be able to speak to a robot in natural language and it will complete a series of actions to carry out a task," he said, expressing confidence in the pace of software advances. The company has already achieved a roughly 90 percent success rate on simple tasks, but challenges remain with fine movements such as loosening a bottle cap and with handling unexpected situations, and adoption in ordinary households is still expected to take time. About 1,000 contract workers at the company wear data-collection devices at home and in factories, gathering movement data to train the robots. Spirit AI was founded in 2024 and has about 300 full-time employees. It has raised more than 670 million dollars to date and has deployed dozens of humanoid robots at battery giant CATL and online retail giant JD.com.

Tesla Seeks Federal Ruling Over Terafab Name for $16.8 Billion Chip Complex

Tesla and SpaceX are seeking a federal ruling that the Terafab name does not infringe trademark rights held by TERA-print, adding a legal fight to the company's planned $16.8 billion chip complex. Tesla filed three Terafab-related trademark applications in May, and the planned Texas operation would manufacture, package and test advanced logic and memory chips for Optimus robots, Cybercabs and SpaceX data centers. Tesla shares slipped roughly 1% to $362.84 on Friday. The stock trades 8.66% above its $333.92 GF Value, indicating investors still pay a premium for Tesla's long-term growth ambitions. The larger question is whether Tesla can turn the $16.8 billion capital commitment into reliable semiconductor output, since bringing chip production in-house adds execution risk around yields, utilization, engineering talent and manufacturing discipline.
