Meta's AI spending costs bite as Muse wins and AMD deal cuts chip costs

  • AI borrowing costs climb as tech debt hits $500B Meta is part of a record AI borrowing wave that has pushed tech debt to roughly $500 billion this year, and it is paying over 7% a year on its own bonds. Higher interest costs eat into profit and make the AI buildout more expensive to fund, weighing on the stock.

Rising funding costs directly pressure Meta's profits and are a core force behind the stock's recent weakness.

  • AMD warrants give Meta cheap chips for six gigawatts AMD granted Meta warrants over 160 million shares at one cent, vesting as Meta buys AMD processors for up to six gigawatts of capacity. This locks in AI computing power at a very low effective cost, supporting Meta's buildout and easing the chip-supply worry that has weighed on the stock.

The AMD warrant deal lowers Meta's long-term chip costs and secures supply, a clear positive for the AI buildout.

  • Muse leads AI agent race; analysts see bigger cycle Meta's Muse assistant has seized the lead in the AI agent race, helping drive a 27% stock gain in September, and Wells Fargo raised its Meta price target to $1,000. Strategists say agents need more computing power, so demand for AI infrastructure should persist, supporting Meta's spending case.

Muse's lead and analyst upgrades are the main positive force re-rating Meta shares.

  • Q2 revenue up 28% but free cash flow collapses Meta's Q2 revenue rose 28% to $60.8 billion, but free cash flow shrank to $784 million from $8.5 billion and operating income fell 8% on 55% higher expenses. The gap between revenue and spending growth is the key worry for investors betting the AI buildout pays off.

The earnings picture shows the central tension: strong revenue versus collapsing cash flow from AI spending.

Apple to Ship HomePad Screen on October 13 Without Enterprise Siri

Apple will host its Welcome Home event in Tribeca on October 13, unveiling the HomePad, a device expected to feature a 6-inch square display, the A18 chip, and Face ID, with a rumored price point of $350. The hardware arrives without the conversational, multi-step HomeKit agent that was meant to power it, now delayed until late 2026 or early 2027, leaving only notification summaries and natural language search for HomeKit Secure Video at launch. As of October 11, Siri AI has reached its 28th day since the September 14 beta launch with no enterprise tier, no administrative control, no audit logging, and no SSO, and IT departments are actively blocking or disabling it. Competitors have moved faster: Meta's Muse, launched September 8, has 1.1 million installs and three pricing tiers at free for 100 million tokens per week, $20 per month for Power, and $100 per month for Maximum, plus an Enterprise Platform led by former MongoDB CEO CJ Desai, while xAI's GrokBot has roughly 400,000 users after its August beta launch and is embedded in Cursor Premium Teams at $120 per seat per month. Ketan Karkhanis, CEO of ThoughtSpot, said on CNBC on October 7 that enterprise-scale agentic workflow adoption is still in its early chapters, and the October 13 event will show whether Apple offers any roadmap or timeline for enterprise-grade Siri or cedes the market to rivals that have already shipped the governance layer.

Meta Blocks TikTok Ads in Seven Countries as China Halts Manus AI Deal

Meta Platforms has halted ByteDance's TikTok advertising on Facebook and Instagram across several major markets as of early October 2026, cutting off the rival from using its apps as paid funnels to its short form video service in seven countries including the US, Canada and Indonesia. The move removes TikTok's paid promotion inventory from Meta's core social apps in multiple countries where both groups compete for users, reducing TikTok's ability to pay for user acquisition inside Meta's ecosystem and keeping more ad slots available for consumer brands and other advertisers. Separately, Chinese authorities have blocked Meta's attempt to acquire AI startup Manus, prompting Meta to abandon the transaction and cut ties with the target. Both developments underline heavier regulatory friction and uncertainty around AI investments already flagged as a risk in Meta's narrative, showing how cross border rules can limit access to AI talent and assets just as the firm spends heavily on multi gigawatt compute clusters and Muse related products. Attention now turns to how quickly Meta Enterprise Platform and Muse agents gain paying business users through 2027, with disclosed figures on active enterprise customers, usage of Muse APIs or new country rollouts serving as key proof points.

Duke Energy Declares Dividends and Adds Data Center Safeguards With Tech Giants

Duke Energy declared quarterly cash dividends of US$1.085 per common share and US$359.375 per Series A preferred share, payable on December 16, 2026, to shareholders of record on November 13, 2026. The utility also reached agreements with Amazon, Google, Meta and Microsoft to broaden financial safeguards for North Carolina data centers, tying directly into its multi gigawatt data center pipeline. If regulators approve the framework, it would sit alongside existing electric service agreements as part of the story investors are watching around large load growth, capital spending and how much external funding Duke must raise to build out the grid and new generation. Duke's narrative projects $38.3 billion in revenue and $6.5 billion in earnings by 2029, requiring 5.3% yearly revenue growth and about a $1.3 billion earnings increase from $5.2 billion today. The company's rising capital needs could still collide with a period of persistently higher borrowing costs.

New Mexico Jury Finds Meta Liable for 43.9 Million Privacy Violations

A Santa Fe jury found Meta Platforms liable for 43.9 million willful violations of New Mexico's Unfair Practices Act over its handling of user data, misinformation, and its response to the Cambridge Analytica scandal. The maximum statutory penalty of $5,000 per violation implies theoretical exposure of approximately $219.5 billion, though state attorneys subsequently requested $35 billion to $40 billion, and neither figure represents a penalty awarded by the court. The final penalty will be decided by a judge in a separate phase, and it marks New Mexico's second win against Meta this year, after a March child-safety case produced a $375 million award and a $567 million abatement order that the company is contesting after seeking permission to post a $1.8 billion bond. The state's revised request of $35 billion to $40 billion equals roughly 39% to 44% of Meta's $90 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities, though the earlier March award came in at less than 20% of what prosecutors sought. Meta's forward P/E sits about 7% above its 5-year average, hedge fund holders fell from 262 at the end of Q1 2026 to 254 at the end of Q2 2026, and short interest was just 1.31% of float as of August 31, 2026.

Hunterbrook Capital Discloses Short Position in Meta, Citing Slowing Muse Adoption

Hunterbrook Capital disclosed a short position in Meta Platforms, pointing to alternative data indicating a marked deceleration in adoption for Muse, the company's flagship artificial intelligence application. The position was revealed alongside a report from affiliate investigative outlet Hunterbrook Media, which analyzed tracking metrics from alternative-data provider TickerTrends. According to the report, weekly downloads for Muse declined 8.1% week-over-week in the seven days ending October 7, averaging approximately 165,000 per day, while net daily active user additions slowed to roughly 74,000 in the first week of October, a 62.4% reduction from the average daily expansion rate of 198,000 recorded in late September. The report also cites functional barriers for Muse, including access restrictions imposed by major third-party platforms such as Amazon, as well as heightened scrutiny over data privacy and safety vulnerabilities. Meta shares traded less than 0.3% lower following the publication and have risen almost 10% over the past month, with market participants set to watch whether the alternative-data trends show up in the company's upcoming third-quarter financial results.

Agentic Commerce Control Splits Across Layers as Liability Gap Persists

Agentic commerce is fragmenting across infrastructure layers, with control over the checkout gate splitting rather than consolidating even as 89% of merchants prepare for autonomous agents while only 3% of transactions currently involve them, according to the Checkout.com 2026 report. Merchants are reclaiming protocol-level control: Shopify recently implemented robots.txt restrictions to block AI crawlers from checkout and cart paths, the first major eCommerce platform to draw the line at the protocol level, while Amazon has blocked Meta Muse agent checkouts over unauthorized access and credential capture concerns, as GeekWire reported. Only 11% of SMBs are currently agent-ready per PYMNTS/Visa data, and just 28% of merchants are willing to offer agents their full product range. Settlement infrastructure is maturing in parallel, with Moody's issuing its first-ever stablecoin protocol rating, the Citi-Coinbase collaboration wiring its $6 trillion payment network to stablecoins, and SAP Pay stablecoin settlement embedded directly in its ERP software. The liability framework remains unallocated, however: PYMNTS Intelligence data shows 93% of merchants believe AI providers should bear the financial loss for agent errors, yet no clear mechanism exists, and Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller, speaking at Sibos, named authentication, liability, and fraud as the three binding challenges while framing the open-versus-closed choice as the variable that could significantly influence how market structure evolves. Walmart pilot data showed conversion rates roughly three times lower for direct agent checkouts than for click-out flows, according to Walmart executive Daniel Danker, first reported by Wired.

Meta bans ByteDance ads in 7 countries, including Thailand, effective Oct 8

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, announced a ban on advertising from ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, across its platforms in 7 countries, effective immediately from October 8. The measure covers the United States, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam, and also applies to outside advertisers who buy ads to draw users to TikTok and other ByteDance services in these countries. A Meta spokesperson said the company is not obliged to open its ad space to competitors seeking to pull users away from its platforms, and stressed that refusing to provide advertising services to competitors is a common business practice, adding that Meta will continue to compete on product quality and user experience. Earlier, in August, Meta called on TikTok and YouTube to raise protections for teenage users along the lines of the approach Meta agreed with various U.S. states after facing allegations that social media harms children, which led to a settlement worth up to 18 billion dollars. TikTok, meanwhile, reached a settlement with the state of Alabama in September, agreeing to add usage restrictions and strengthen age verification of users.

Meta Bans ByteDance Ads on Facebook and Instagram in Seven Countries

Meta Platforms has immediately barred TikTok parent ByteDance from advertising on Facebook and Instagram in seven countries, a Meta spokesperson told Benzinga on Thursday. The ban covers the U.S., Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam, and also applies to third-party advertisers running campaigns that direct users to TikTok and other ByteDance-owned properties in those markets. Meta said it would not provide promotional services to a competitor seeking to draw users away from its platforms, calling the decision a normal business practice across industries. The restriction does not prevent users from accessing TikTok, and TikTok and ByteDance did not immediately respond to Benzinga's request for comment. Bloomberg News first reported the advertising ban on Thursday.

Manus raises over $500M led by Boyu Capital and IDG Capital

Chinese AI startup Manus raised more than $500M in a funding round led by Boyu Capital and IDG Capital, its first major fundraise since China blocked Meta Platforms' planned $2B-plus acquisition of the company. Butterfly Effect, Manus' parent company, said existing investors Tencent, HSG, and ZhenFund also participated in the round. The company did not disclose its latest valuation or how it plans to use the proceeds, but said it would continue hiring in China and internationally. Meta announced the deal in December 2025 after Manus, which was founded in China, relocated its operations to Singapore, and Manus subsequently resumed independent operations. The latest funding follows reports in September that Manus was seeking to raise $500M at a $4B valuation, which would be roughly double the value of the proposed Meta transaction, though the valuation has not yet been confirmed.

Meta's Muse AI agent hits 2.182 million daily users as Amazon blocks access

Meta's new Muse AI agent reached 2.182 million daily active users on Oct. 5, according to Similarweb data, with usage climbing steadily throughout October. The growth comes as Muse reportedly faces a new hurdle: websites, Amazon being the top-of-mind example, blocking AI agents from browsing or completing purchases. Deutsche Bank analyst Benjamin Black sees Muse reaching up to 8% of Meta's revenue by 2030, roughly $36 billion in sales, with a lower-end estimate of $2.4 billion by 2030. Meta stock is down 7.7% from its record high reached in late September amid the Muse hype. If Muse's usefulness becomes limited as more websites treat AI agents as bots or security risks, that could dent the new bullish case for the stock that has developed since the agent's September launch.

New Apple CEO John Ternus Shakes Up Device Launches, Trims Siri and Vision Pro

New Apple CEO John Ternus is restructuring how the company releases products, pushing for new devices throughout the year instead of concentrating them at spring and fall events, according to Bloomberg. Ternus, just over a month into the job, is also weighing cuts to layers of middle management so engineers work more closely with leadership, while Apple pulls back on projects it deems less essential, including Siri, Vision Pro, and some AI software teams. Bank of America analyst Wamsi Mohan still rates Apple a Buy with a $370 target and calls it an eventual winner of AI at the edge, but warns that iPhone owners increasingly turn to agents like Meta's Muse to shop and book, potentially shifting app-download and search-traffic value away from Apple. Apple's forward P/E stands at 37.78x, roughly 28% above its most recent historical average of 29.55x, while EPS growth is expected to slow from 18.38% in fiscal 2026 to 8.51% in 2027. Michael Burry Says Big Tech AI Spending Bets on 'Too Big to Fail' Oligopoly

Investor Michael Burry said Tuesday that big technology companies are spending wildly on data centers because their CEOs assume they will be granted an oligopoly that is too big to fail. In a post on X, Burry argued that this expectation is the only reason for the spending spree. JPMorgan estimates AI capital spending could rise from roughly $700 billion this year to $1 trillion next year, while Goldman Sachs expects the five biggest hyperscalers to issue about $250 billion in bonds this year and $400 billion in 2027. Separately, Space Exploration Technologies Corp. is reportedly seeking $40 billion in loans and debt, led by Apollo Global Management, to buy Nvidia Corp. chips, according to the Financial Times. Amazon.com Inc., Alphabet Inc., and Microsoft Corp. are on track to spend roughly $590 billion to $600 billion on capital expenditures this year, much of it on data centers and AI infrastructure, while Meta Platforms Inc. reportedly described some of its AI data centers to the IRS as pilot models to claim federal research tax credits, cutting its tax bill by $3.9 billion in 2025, according to The New York Times.

Meta's Muse Becomes Top Downloaded App as AI Spending Bets Pay Off

Suncoast Equity Management's U.S. Equity Large Cap Select Growth Strategy highlighted Meta Platforms as a leading contributor in its Q3 2026 investor letter, citing the rapid success of the company's new AI app Muse. The strategy advanced 4.2% after fees in the third quarter, compared to 2.3% for the S&P 500, and has risen 14.5% after fees since March. According to the letter, Muse has been the most downloaded app on Apple and Android devices since its September introduction, with early user reviews described as favorable. The letter noted that AI has already improved Meta's advertising effectiveness and that the stock's rapid snap back during the quarter showed what can happen when price and fundamentals become overly disconnected. Meta is growing earnings at an expected 35% in 2026 yet trades at a price-to-earnings ratio below the market, the letter said, while cautioning it is too early to tell how much the company will monetize Muse.

Bambuser said the tie-up combines the production quality and conversion of a brand-owned live shopping event with the distribution power of Meta's platforms, citing projections that live commerce will reach 3.7 trillion dollars globally by 2030 and noting that Meta expanded live video ads globally on Facebook and introduced them on Instagram in June 2026. According to Meta, livestreams supported by at least $100 in ad spend reached 24 times more viewers than organic broadcasts. Adam Joseph, Vice President of Customer Success at Bambuser, said the question has always been how to scale the audience and that the partnership lets the company bring new viewers into a brand-owned experience at exactly the moment the show is live. Bambuser customers will be able to apply for early access later this quarter, with general availability planned for Q1 2027 for all customers whose plan includes social media streaming, in all markets where Meta live video ads are supported.

Chipmakers Seen as Best Bet in AI Agent Race as Meta's Muse Leads

Wall Street strategists say chipmakers remain the best way for equity investors to play the race for the top artificial intelligence agent, even as Meta Platforms' Muse appears to have seized the lead. Meta debuted its Muse personal AI assistant last month, drawing huge download numbers and rave reviews that helped drive a 27% gain in its stock in September, its best month in nearly four years, while OpenAI followed with Dots, joining Alphabet's Gemini Spark and SpaceXAI's Grok Bot in the AI agent market. Investors argue that because AI agents require more computing power than earlier chatbot-style tools, demand for chips and other AI infrastructure should persist regardless of which company wins the agent race. The Philadelphia Stock Exchange Semiconductor Index has jumped 84% this year, and nine of the top 10 gainers in the S&P 500 Index have exposure to the AI infrastructure theme. Analysts have raised expectations for the sector, which is now projected to post net income growth of 63% in 2027 on a 54% leap in revenue, according to Bloomberg Intelligence, up from a late-July projection of less than 48% profit growth on a 32% revenue rise. Citigroup analyst Atif Malik estimates the total addressable market for CPU chips will grow at a 60% compound annual rate through 2030.

Cequence Finds Meta's Muse AI Agent Hit Over Half of Studied Customers Unseen

Cequence Security said traffic matching Meta's Muse personal AI agent appeared at more than half of the customers it studied within two weeks of Muse's September 8 launch, and most of those businesses would not have known. Cequence analyzed traffic across customers in financial services, retail, travel, software and other sectors from September 1 to September 24, 2026, and found Muse traffic grew nearly sixfold from its first week to its most recent week, depending on the industry. Muse runs a real Chrome browser in the cloud directed by an AI model and routes traffic through a consumer VPN without signing its requests or identifying itself as an agent, so Cequence detected it through behavioral analysis, including a browser update that went from 0% to more than 90% of Muse traffic within days. At financial institutions, Muse logged in to customer accounts and completed multi-factor authentication on users' behalf with confirmed successful sign-ins, and a small share of sessions ended in a completed purchase. Cequence launched Agent Trust, a new capability in its Application and API Protection product available today, which verifies agents that present an identity and catches those that do not, letting businesses block, rate-limit or challenge a specific action rather than the agent behind it.

Isomorphic Labs in talks to raise funds at $40B to $50B valuation

Isomorphic Labs, the AI-powered drug discovery startup spun out of Alphabet's Google DeepMind, is in early talks to raise new funds at a valuation of at least $40B, according to Bloomberg. The round could value Isomorphic as highly as $50B, one of the sources said, though the financing has not closed and details could change. The talks come only five months after Isomorphic Labs raised $2.1B in its Series B funding effort. Separately, the US government and tech giants Meta Platforms and Google parent Alphabet are joining nonprofit Biohub to build open datasets to train AI models for biological research, bringing total investment in the effort to $1.8B, Biohub said on Wednesday. Meta Commits $300 Million to $1.8 Billion Biohub AI Biology Initiative, Signs Indiana Solar PPA

Meta Platforms has committed $300 million to the $1.8 billion Biohub AI Biology Initiative, a drug-development effort that brings the company together with the U.S. government and major technology groups to apply predictive AI models and data sharing to pharmaceutical research. Meta has also signed a long-term solar Power Purchase Agreement tied to the Reclamation Solar project in Indiana to support its energy needs. The company runs global social, messaging and immersive platforms whose vast user data gives it a practical footing for applying AI models to biology research, while its large-scale infrastructure needs create direct links to long-term clean energy projects. The Indiana solar agreement follows an earlier nuclear deal with Vistra, and both reflect the energy demands of Meta's AI and metaverse data centers. The article's author notes that the Biohub work does not yet answer how quickly AI biology research could connect back to meaningful revenue streams.

Duke Energy Reaches Settlement to Shield Customers From Data Center Costs

Duke Energy and a group of stakeholders have reached an agreement that further protects existing customers from the costs of serving data centers and other large-load customers in North Carolina. The settlement, filed between Duke Energy Carolinas and Duke Energy Progress and the North Carolina Public Staff, also includes Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, the Carolina Industrial Group for Fair Utility Rates and the U.S. Department of Defense. Under the terms, large-load customers must make nonrefundable upfront payments for grid facilities serving only them, such as a substation, and post upfront deposits and security guarantees for grid upgrades that serve all customers, such as transmission lines. New large-load customers, including new data centers, must also take service under a High Load Factor rate schedule. If approved by state regulators, the agreement would apply to all large-load customers of 50 megawatts or more with an 80% load factor that sign an electric service agreement in North Carolina after June 1, 2026, expanding on protections Duke Energy first required in 2024 for loads of 100 megawatts or more. The North Carolina Utilities Commission is expected to decide on the agreement by mid-November.

Zelestra Closes $350 Million Financing for 203 MW Indiana Solar Project Backed by Meta

Zelestra has closed $350 million in green project financing credit facilities for its 203 MW Reclamation solar project in Gibson County, Indiana. The credit facilities were provided by Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, BBVA and Societe Generale. The close takes Zelestra past $1 billion, or $1.14 billion, in US project financing raised in 2026, supporting more than 800 MW of new solar now in construction for its customers. Reclamation is built on land reclaimed from former coal mining operations in southwest Indiana, is underpinned by a long-term Power Purchase Agreement with Meta, and is expected to come online by the end of 2027. Self-proclaimed 'Godfather' crypto businessman sentenced to 6 years 6 months for defrauding Meta of 5.8 billion yen

A federal court in California on October 5 handed down a prison sentence of 6 years and 6 months to a self-proclaimed "Godfather" crypto businessman, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California announced the same day. The sentence covered three charges: defrauding Meta, tax evasion, and conspiring with a sheriff's deputy to violate rights; the defendant had pleaded guilty in January 2025. The amount defrauded from Meta exceeded 37 million dollars, roughly 5.85 billion yen, and the ruling also ordered restitution of 23,402,766 dollars, about 3.7 billion yen. The fraud used accounts on Meta's advertising management service Business Manager, with the defendant illegally gaining access to accounts and to credit lines usable for paying advertising costs, then selling the rights to use them to advertising companies. The fraudulently used advertising costs were billed to legitimate customers, and Meta bore the loss after refunding them once the scheme was discovered. The defendant also failed to file corporate tax returns on the income obtained and concealed his ownership of the company, moving income to a cryptocurrency custodian, among other actions. To threaten an adversary, he used a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputy who was off duty, and the deputy used investigative databases and fraudulently obtained warrants to look up the person's personal information and whereabouts. In 2022, targeting a person believed to possess a laptop with access to a large amount of cryptocurrency, the deputy obtained a warrant on false grounds and pinpointed the location from cellphone location data; the defendant sent three armed men to the person's home to seize the laptop, but the victim opened fire and the three fled. The defendant was also sentenced in September to 15 years in prison for involvement in a separate attempted Bitcoin robbery and kidnapping case, and the 6-year-6-month sentence will be served concurrently with that 15-year term.

EU Weighs Expanding Tax on Large Companies in Bid to Capture Revenue from US Big Tech

The European Union is considering adjusting its levy on large companies so it can capture revenue from major US technology firms without introducing a digital tax aimed directly at those companies, in order to avoid conflict with the United States. The Financial Times reported today, October 7, citing six EU officials, that the European Commission is weighing changes to its revenue-raising proposal, the Corporate Resource for Europe, or CORE, to find ways to collect more revenue from major US technology companies such as Apple, Meta and Google without targeting them specifically. CORE currently requires companies operating in the EU with revenue of more than 100 million euros a year to pay a flat annual contribution of roughly 100,000 to 750,000 euros, which is seen as collecting only a small fraction relative to the earnings of large multinationals. One EU official said some member states oppose a direct digital tax because they do not want to antagonize the United States, while several other countries oppose the CORE proposal, making an expansion of the measure to cover nearly all large companies one of the options under consideration. A European Commission spokesperson said the commission stands ready to support the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament in reaching agreement on new EU revenue sources, which are important for allocating the budget for joint missions over the next 10 years. The effort comes amid continued tension in trade relations between the EU and the United States. US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose 100% import tariffs on goods from countries that levy digital services taxes on US companies, while the Office of the United States Trade Representative, which has long opposed such taxes, has also threatened retaliatory tariffs on European countries that apply the measure, alleging discrimination against US companies.

Jim Cramer Sees More Upside for Everpure After 66% Quarterly Surge

Jim Cramer said on the October 1 episode of Mad Money that Everpure, Inc. could have more room to run after the stock gained 66% in the third quarter, when the S&P 500 rose just 2.03%. Cramer noted that Everpure, which joined the S&P 500 in September, has become a hyperscaler play after Meta chose it to handle some of its storage. The company expanded that business on August 10 with a design win for its DirectFlash technology with a second top-five hyperscaler, and its fiscal second-quarter 2027 results showed remaining performance obligations rising 44% year-over-year to approximately $4.1 billion and subscription annual recurring revenue up 20% to approximately $2.1 billion. On September 23, management maintained its fiscal 2027 revenue forecast of $5.03 billion to $5.07 billion and introduced a preliminary fiscal 2028 outlook of $7 billion to $7.3 billion, representing expected growth of 39% to 45%, with non-GAAP operating income projected at $1.7 billion to $1.9 billion versus fiscal 2027 guidance of $940 million to $960 million. Those gains have come alongside negative operating cash flow of approximately $136 million and negative free cash flow of approximately $238 million in the fiscal second quarter, a GAAP operating margin of 5.3% against a non-GAAP margin of 19.4%, and a forward earnings multiple of approximately 45x versus approximately 21.4x for storage competitor NetApp. Insider Monkey's database of more than 1,000 hedge funds showed 51 funds holding Everpure at the end of the second quarter, up from 47 in the prior quarter, with Renaissance Technologies the top holder and short interest at 2.88% of the public float as of mid-September.

AMD Tops $600, But Meta's 160 Million Share Warrant Isn't Fully Vested

Advanced Micro Devices stock climbed above $600, pushing its market capitalization past $1 trillion and crossing a key stock-price threshold tied to its warrant agreement with Meta Platforms, though the move does not immediately unlock Meta's full 160 million shares. According to AMD's February 2026 SEC filing, Meta's warrant gives it the right to purchase up to 160 million AMD shares at $0.01 per share, with vesting requiring three simultaneous conditions: GPU purchase milestones starting after 1 gigawatt is shipped and reaching full vesting at 6 gigawatts purchased, rising stock-price thresholds that reach $600 for the final tranche, and unspecified technical and commercial conditions AMD did not disclose. Meta and OpenAI each hold warrants for up to 160 million shares, and some reports have incorrectly combined the two agreements into a 320-million-share giveaway; the combined 320 million shares would increase AMD's current share count by roughly 20% if both warrants are fully exercised. AMD's latest filing said no Meta or OpenAI warrant shares had vested as of June 27, with shipments only starting to ramp in the second half of 2026 and full vesting requiring Meta to purchase the entire 6-gigawatt commitment over multiple years. CFO Jean Hu has argued the arrangement will still be accretive to non-GAAP EPS after the warrants are included, because each gigawatt is expected to produce double-digit billions in revenue.

Meta Launches Enterprise Platform, Triggering Selloff in Software Stocks

Meta Platforms launched the Meta Enterprise Platform on September 28 as a new business pillar built around its AI technology stack, giving businesses and developers access to tools including the Meta Business Agent, Muse Code, Muse Agent, and Muse API. The market read the move as a competitive threat to enterprise software, sending the iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF down 2%, ServiceNow down 5%, monday.com down 7%, and MongoDB down 25%. Meta recruited MongoDB CEO Chirantan "CJ" Desai to lead the initiative, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg pointed to Desai's background in full-stack software, security, AI, infrastructure, and business applications. The announcement also dragged down Microsoft by 2%, Salesforce by 4.5%, Oracle by 3%, Adobe by 4%, Figma by 6%, and SAP by 3%. Meta has tried enterprise before, having fully decommissioned its Workplace product in May 2026 after a decade, though recent SaaS results cut against the idea that AI automatically destroys software demand, with MongoDB growing revenue 30% in its latest quarter and raising guidance while ServiceNow's subscription revenue climbed 24.5%.

DAAT forecasts Thai digital advertising to grow 0.3% in 2026, the slowest in 14 years

The Digital Advertising Association (Thailand), or DAAT, together with Kantar Thailand, forecast that Thai digital advertising spending in 2026 will reach 32.339 billion baht, a gain of 0.3%, the slowest growth rate in 14 years. First-half actual spending came to 16.573 billion baht, with 15.766 billion baht expected in the second half. Sroda Sornprasit, president of DAAT, said at a press conference on 2 October 2026 that the industry should not be viewed through spending figures alone, but that it is important to understand how the numbers reflect changes in business, the market, and consumer behaviour. Nongnuch Puangpong of Kantar Thailand noted that the market remains under pressure from political uncertainty and the oil supply situation. Skincare held the top spot for advertising spending for a fourth year, with a 20% share of the total market, or 6.339 billion baht, up 19% from a year earlier, well ahead of communications, non-alcoholic beverages, dairy products, and automotive, each of which accounted for roughly 2 billion baht. On platforms, Meta held the largest share at 25%, or 8.157 billion baht, followed by TikTok, which moved into a close second with a 24% share, or 7.779 billion baht, and YouTube with 10%, or 3.18 billion baht. E-commerce platforms increased their digital advertising spending by 27% in 2025 and are expected to grow another 28% this year. Meanwhile, 92% of people in the industry are already using AI tools, and the biggest challenge for digital marketers in 2026 is brands producing their own digital advertising in-house, cited by 59%, followed by a shortage of specialised digital advertising personnel at 56% and coping with new technology at 56%.

AMD Grants OpenAI and Meta Warrants for 320 Million Shares at One Cent

Advanced Micro Devices has granted OpenAI and Meta warrants over as many as 160 million shares each, at an exercise price of one cent, according to the company's filings. The warrants do not vest on signing: each holder earns its tranches by buying AMD processors, up to six gigawatts of deployed capacity apiece, so the dilution and the revenue arrive together. The final OpenAI tranche carries one more condition, a $600 share price, a threshold already cleared with AMD trading at $655.90 on October 6. At the current price, the 320 million shares represent roughly $210 billion of value handed over for $3.2 million, close to a fifth of the company against its $1.07 trillion market capitalization. Citi predicts Meta's AI 'Muse' will top $27 billion in annual revenue by 2030

U.S. financial giant Citigroup said Meta Platforms' artificial intelligence assistant Muse could generate more than $27 billion in annual revenue by 2030. According to Citi, Muse has surpassed 6.6 million cumulative downloads since its launch, with daily active users reaching 1.8 million. Citi estimates that Muse's annual revenue will exceed $27 billion by 2030, of which transaction-related income will account for about $23 billion and subscription income about $4.5 billion. Announced in September, Muse is central to Meta's strategy of bringing AI-powered personal agents to general users, and Meta expects the technology to generate new revenue from subscriptions and commerce while further boosting engagement across its services. Citi said Muse is benefiting from a first-mover advantage as personal agents emerge as a new gateway to the internet.

LinkedIn Cofounder Reid Hoffman Says AI Data Center Spending Is 'the Only Reason We're Not in a Recession'

LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman said the massive capital flowing into AI infrastructure and data center construction is the only reason the U.S. economy is not in a recession. Speaking on the 'Newcomer' podcast released Friday, Hoffman said most of that capital does not go directly to areas where data centers are being built but is more distributed across the country, and he highlighted the work it provides for construction workers, carpenters, real estate agents, electricians and lawyers. He added that a massive percentage of the capital infusion is going toward data center construction, and said developers should work fairly with local communities so both sides benefit. The remarks come as Meta Platforms reportedly classified some AI data centers as pilot models to claim federal research tax credits, reducing its tax bill by $3.9 billion in 2025, and as Broadcom was reportedly assembling a $60 billion financing package to help Anthropic and other companies fund AI chip and infrastructure needs. AI skeptic Ed Zitron has warned that private credit funding the data center boom has become a brewing crisis, while Bill Gates said the world might need to experience serious AI-related problems before governments and the public fully address the technology's risks.

Mark Cuban Accuses Meta of Knowingly Running AI Deepfake Scam Ads

Mark Cuban says Meta knowingly runs AI deepfake scam ads, alleging on an August episode of the Pivot podcast that he receives weekly emails from older people about a $294 diabetes cure he has never sold. Cuban, who co-founded the online pharmacy Cost Plus Drugs, called the platform "the worst of the worst" and said Facebook knows the victims are being ripped off. On Nov. 6, 2025, Reuters reported on internal Meta documents showing the company expected roughly $16 billion, or about 10% of its 2024 revenue, to flow in from ads pushing scams and prohibited products, with users seeing some 15 billion "higher risk" ads a day and one late 2024 document valuing that category at about $7 billion a year. Meta spokesman Andy Stone told Reuters the documents "present a selective view that distorts Meta's approach to fraud and scams" and called the 10% estimate "rough and overly-inclusive," saying user complaints about scam ads had fallen 58% over the prior 18 months and the company pulled down more than 134 million scam ads in 2025. The same documents note the Securities and Exchange Commission is looking into Meta over advertising tied to financial fraud, while the FBI's 2025 Internet Crime Report says people 60 and older lost $7.7 billion across 201,266 complaints, with AI appearing in more than 3,100 of those complaints and those victims losing over $352 million.
META · Regulation · Negative Reuters-reported internal documents show Meta earns ~10% of revenue from scam/prohibited ads and the SEC is investigating it over financial-fraud advertising.

Corgi Invest Launches MN ETF Offering Exposure to OpenAI and Anthropic

Corgi Invest announced the launch of the MN ETF, an actively managed exchange-traded fund that seeks to give investors exposure to private AI companies OpenAI and Anthropic alongside Meta Platforms, NVIDIA, Alphabet and SpaceX. The fund, whose MANGOS name is an acronym of the six companies' initials, began trading on Cboe BZX Exchange on October 2, 2026, and carries a total annual operating expense ratio of 0.20%. Because OpenAI and Anthropic are not publicly traded, the fund seeks exposure to both through cash-settled total return swaps rather than direct share purchases, with combined exposure to the two private companies limited to 15% of the fund's net assets at the time of investment. Chief Investment Strategist Jeff Weniger said the fund puts that exposure inside a standard exchange-traded wrapper with no lockups and no accreditation requirement. Under normal market conditions the fund invests at least 80% of its net assets in equity securities of all six MANGOS companies and in instruments such as total return swaps that provide economic exposure to their equity value, with portfolio weightings set through active management rather than index replication.

Ofcom Opens First Meta Investigation Under Online Safety Act

Ofcom has launched its first online safety investigation into Meta since the Online Safety Act came fully into force last year, examining whether the company carried out sufficient due diligence before launching a disappearing messaging feature on Instagram. The regulator said Meta had not carried out a suitable and sufficient illegal content risk assessment for Instagram Instants, a separate app allowing users to share photo messages that disappear after they are sent, and risk assessments are required before the launch of a new product under the act. George Lusty, Ofcom's director of enforcement, said significant changes to platforms must be risk assessed before they are launched, adding that you would not launch a new car without testing it properly. Meta said it takes its regulatory obligations seriously, conducted a risk analysis and briefed Ofcom about the feature on a number of occasions before launching it, and will co-operate with the investigation. The investigation comes in the same week Meta is conducting a High Court challenge against what it calls burdensome new laws, seeking to quash three Ofcom information requests concerning Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp; Meta said the regulator had asked for more than 10,000 extra pieces of information and wanted to build a bank of data, while a witness statement submitted by Elon Musk's X said Ofcom's was the most burdensome information request X has received from any regulator in any jurisdiction. Meta is separately challenging Ofcom over the fees charged to social media companies to enforce the regime, and over Instagram and WhatsApp being designated as category 1 services, which come with the most strict enforcement.
