CoreWeave expands in India, but OpenAI revenue scare sinks AI stocks

  • Jefferies names CoreWeave a midterm winner Jefferies listed CoreWeave among tech's biggest winners if November's midterms split Congress, since a national AI policy would beat a patchwork of state rules. That would keep the AI buildout fast, and CoreWeave, a leading alternative to the giant clouds, benefits.

A policy tailwind that supports CoreWeave's core buildout demand.

  • First India data centers via AdaniConneX CoreWeave will build its first India data centers with AdaniConneX, using 240 megawatts in Navi Mumbai with room to double, and Nvidia's newest chips inside. The multi-billion-dollar project, live by mid-2028, expands capacity and customers beyond the US.

New long-term capacity and geographic expansion directly grows CoreWeave's future revenue base.

  • OpenAI revenue restatement sparks AI selloff OpenAI's reported yearly revenue was cut to about $50 billion from $68 billion, an accounting change, not a demand drop. Still, CoreWeave fell 8% as investors questioned how much AI infrastructure depends on a few huge buyers like OpenAI.

The period's main price driver: fear that CoreWeave's biggest customers may spend less than assumed.

  • Insider selling and convertible debt overhang Alongside the selloff, reports of insider selling and roughly $3 billion of convertible debt weighed on CoreWeave. Convertible notes can dilute existing owners, and insider sales can signal doubt, so both add pressure on top of the customer-concentration worry.

A separate, company-specific drag that deepened CoreWeave's decline beyond the sector move.

AI bubble warnings mount as Dalio, Burry and Altman flag risks

A growing roster of investors, strategists and industry leaders are warning that the artificial-intelligence boom may be nearing a breaking point, with concerns shifting from the debt and interest rates funding massive data centers to the technology's potential for catastrophic harm. Ray Dalio said the bubble is nearing the point where it may burst because rising interest rates and increased borrowing to fund the AI infrastructure buildout create a need for cash, while strategist Joachim Klement said his core conviction is that the AI bubble will burst in 2027 or 2028. Michael Burry has taken short positions against Nvidia, Oracle, Palantir, Nebius, Micron and CoreWeave, arguing that enormous capital spending might not translate into durable returns, and Galaxy Digital CEO Michael Novogratz called it the biggest bubble of our lifetime while advising investors to ride the wave. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said investors as a whole are overexcited about AI, and Sequoia's David Cahn put the annual gap between AI infrastructure spending and ecosystem revenue at nearly $600 billion, saying the bubble is reaching a tipping point. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei called for slowing the pace of AI model improvements, with OpenAI's Sam Altman and SpaceX founder Elon Musk agreeing, after Anthropic insider Evan Hubinger put his personal estimate of the probability that AI could kill all humans at more than 10% within the next decade.

CoreWeave Slides as OpenAI Cuts Reported Revenue to $50 Billion

CoreWeave was caught in a sector-wide selloff after OpenAI cut its reported annualized revenue to $50 billion from $68 billion, a revision disclosed as a shift in accounting treatment rather than a demand slump. The restatement hit AI infrastructure stocks before a partial rebound, as traders questioned how much current AI infrastructure valuations rest on a small pool of heavyweight customers such as OpenAI. CoreWeave operates US cloud infrastructure supplying computing power to AI developers, and its US$48.8 billion market cap makes any rethink in spending by a few large customers carry outsized weight. Investors will watch how CoreWeave's reported backlog and contract mix evolve in upcoming quarters, including updates tied to its US$2.6 billion AI infrastructure loan and new deals from the Partner Network or clients like Ennoble Care. A steady or rising backlog with less revenue tied to a single counterparty would signal the business is reducing concentration risk rather than leaning further into it.
CRWV · Demand · Negative Caught in AI infrastructure selloff as OpenAI's reported revenue cut raises doubts about spending from heavyweight customers like OpenAI that drive CoreWeave's business.
OpenAI · Capital · Negative OpenAI cut its reported annualized revenue to $50 billion from $68 billion via an accounting treatment shift, the trigger for the AI infrastructure selloff.

OpenAI Revenue Gap Is Accounting, Not Demand, as AI Stocks Slide

OpenAI's annualized revenue is running at roughly $50 billion, about $20 billion below the $68 billion figure that circulated in September after multiple outlets reported it as fact, and the gap is a measurement difference rather than a demand shortfall. The $68 billion figure came from a September 29 report traced to Axios and Reuters that appears to have used a gross revenue methodology counting the full dollar value flowing through OpenAI's cloud partnerships, including the portion passed through to infrastructure partners like Microsoft Azure, while OpenAI reports net revenue excluding those pass-through costs. On October 8, the Financial Times reported that OpenAI had told investors its annualized revenue was running at approximately $50 billion at the end of September, a figure CNBC confirmed the same day, with OpenAI's own disclosures to investors showing 77% total revenue growth and 107% enterprise revenue growth in Q3. The market did not wait for methodology clarification: Oracle fell 5%, with its $300 billion five-year cloud commitment to OpenAI representing roughly 45% of remaining performance obligations, Nvidia dropped 2.94% to $230.48, CoreWeave fell 8% amid insider selling reports and $3 billion in convertible debt overhang, and the Nasdaq 100 shed 300 points in thirty minutes on Thursday afternoon. Analyst consensus has converged on the word overblown, since the methodology difference does not change the fundamental demand trajectory, but the episode highlights how concentrated AI infrastructure valuations remain on a narrow set of demand assumptions from a small number of very large buyers.

Devon Energy to Sell Eagle Ford Acreage to Crescent Energy for US$4.2b

Devon Energy has agreed to sell its Eagle Ford shale acreage to Crescent Energy for US$4.2b in cash, reshaping its portfolio around higher-return, longer-duration assets. The roughly 90,000 net acres are described as non-core, and management aims to lower its corporate breakeven, with net proceeds earmarked for faster share repurchases and debt reduction. Closing is expected around year end 2026, and investors will watch for any updated capital return framework. The deal headlines a morning in which US stocks are set for a softer open as inflation expectations push higher again, with median US inflation expectations for the year ahead at 3.9% for September 2026, the highest since May 2023, and Fed minutes showing most officials see a likely need for another 25 bps hike to a range of 3.75% to 4% by year end. Mortgage applications are down 4.2% and the average 30 year fixed rate sits around 7.49%, keeping pressure on borrowing costs for households and companies. Elsewhere, Vertiv reported quarterly sales up 24% and lifted its annual forecasts on AI data center demand, while CoreWeave faces a tougher backdrop for data center IPOs after an expected postponement of Nvidia backed Firmus Grid's Australian listing.

ASPS says falling bond yields support short-term SET recovery, highlights 5 standout stocks ahead of IMF-World Bank meetings

Asia Plus Securities, or ASPS, assesses that the Thai stock market has a chance of a temporary short-term recovery, supported by the yield on 10-year US government bonds falling from 5.34% to 5.23%, together with the WTI crude oil price easing to near 91 US dollars per barrel after President Donald Trump signalled that he would not yet take military action against Iran before the midterm elections on 3 November 2026. Meanwhile, the auction of 22 billion US dollars of 30-year US government bonds drew strong interest, with a bid-to-cover ratio as high as 2.54 times, above the historical average of 2.41 times. However, ASPS still advises investors to be cautious about long-term volatility, because senior Federal Reserve officials are still signalling a tight monetary policy stance to bring inflation down to the 2% target. It expects US September CPI inflation to rise to plus 3.6% year on year, from plus 3.4% in the previous month. On the AI hardware stock front, the sector faced short-term profit-taking, led by CoreWeave down 8%, Oracle down 6%, and Nvidia down 2.9%, after OpenAI reported annual revenue at the end of September of about 50 billion US dollars, below the market expectation of 68 billion US dollars, and cancelled the launch plan for its GPT-6.1 Astra model and slowed its plan to list the company on the stock exchange. Meanwhile, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, or TSMC, reported record-high third-quarter 2026 revenue of 1.49 trillion Taiwan dollars, above the market expectation of 1.46 trillion Taiwan dollars, driven by demand for advanced chips for AI-processing GPUs and CPUs, along with plans to raise chip production prices next year. As for the Thai stock index, it most recently fell 14 points, or 0.88%, to 1,570.61 points, pressured by the transport and logistics group, which dropped 2.80% after news of preparations to collect three tourist fees and taxes totalling 2,570 baht, combined with concerns over the September consumer confidence index, which fell for the first time in four months amid the flood crisis and diesel prices surging above 40 baht per litre. ASPS recommends a strategy of catching a relief rally in domestic play, tourism, and healthcare stocks, with five standout picks: DISNEY19, which is entering the high season for fourth-quarter earnings on the buzz around the blockbuster film Avengers: Doomsday; AAPL80, which benefits from the upcoming launch of its first foldable-screen smartphone; Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited, or BEM, which has a high chance of winning the contract to operate the southern Purple Line electric train, combined with third-quarter 2026 earnings that are expected to hit the year's peak; Com Seven Public Company Limited, or COM7, whose third-quarter 2026 profit is expected to grow more than 30% year on year; and Bangkok Chain Hospital Public Company Limited, or BCH, whose second-half revenue from foreign patients is trending strongly higher, led by patients from the Middle East, particularly the United Arab Emirates.

SpaceX's $40 Billion AI Chip Financing Tests Investor Appetite for AI Debt

Space Exploration Technologies Corp. is reportedly planning a $40 billion financing package to fund purchases of Nvidia Corp chips, a deal expected to close in 2027 that would include about $10 billion of bank loans and $30 billion of investment-grade debt. The plan arrives only months after SpaceX raised $25 billion through its first bond sale, following $85.7 billion in net proceeds from its June IPO, according to its SEC filing. SpaceX reported $38.4 billion of total debt as of June 30, up from $22 billion at the end of 2025, with its June bond deal carrying interest rates from 5.35% to 6.65% and a weighted average rate of 5.855%. The trend extends beyond SpaceX: Oracle Corp said it expected to raise $45 billion to $50 billion during 2026 through debt and equity to expand Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, while CoreWeave closed a $2.6 billion loan facility backed by customer commitments in August. Neuberger Berman estimated that hyperscaler, data-center and semiconductor financing had reached roughly $165 billion before the midpoint of 2026, about $27 billion more than the entire 2025 total, making the pricing and demand for the next wave of AI-related debt the key signal for investors.

CoreWeave Raises GPU Prices Twice in Three Months, UBS Flags Demand Strength

CoreWeave Inc. has raised its per-hour GPU prices twice in three months, first by 25% across all products in July 2026 and then by another 10% over the past two to three months, according to UBS analyst Karl Keirstead, who sees the pricing gains as evidence that demand in the AI infrastructure market remains strong. Keirstead said the industry is seeing higher hosted Nvidia GPU prices and improving revenue per gigawatt of capacity, though the impact will take time to appear in financial statements. UBS also flagged local and state opposition to data centers, along with the cost and availability of capital, as risks, adding that some projects may fade while better-positioned companies such as CoreWeave should remain strong. CoreWeave carries approximately $35.1 billion in debt, $16.3 billion in operating lease liabilities and $5.5 billion in cash, giving it an enterprise value of $94.23 billion, nearly double its $48.20 billion market capitalization, and a valuation of 7.42x forward sales versus roughly 3.84x on market cap alone. The two increases together raise hourly pricing by about 37.5%, though the news does not specify how much of the business is covered by the new pricing; hedge fund holders rose from 63 at the end of Q1 2026 to 71 at the end of Q2 2026, while short interest stood at 17.64% as of September 15, 2026.

Iren shares fall over 6% as SemiAnalysis flags data center reliability issues

Shares of IREN Ltd fell over 6% in Wednesday trading after research firm SemiAnalysis published a series of critical posts on X reporting severe user complaints about infrastructure quality at the Bitcoin miner-turned-neocloud's data center facilities. According to SemiAnalysis, multiple neocloud customers and end users described Iren's legacy operational sites in Prince George and Mackenzie, British Columbia, as the "worst in the industry," citing multi-day power outages, network upgrade disruptions, storage failures, and air-quality control problems that triggered frequent link flaps and system errors. SemiAnalysis said its own internal testing of Iren GPU capacity, sourced directly and through third-party resellers, confirmed widespread technical shortcomings at those initial locations, though it acknowledged that newer builds in Childress and Sweetwater, Texas, represent a significant operational upgrade with far superior design standards. The firm noted that Iren's massive $2.1 billion investment from Nvidia should help ensure the company avoids cutting technical corners on future site buildouts, but it called on Iren to revise its public investor disclosures and stop claiming it provides fully managed cloud clusters, pointing to the company's most recent annual report on Form 10-K and contrasting comments from Iren's Chief Commercial Officer, who acknowledged the firm currently has no live managed cloud services. SemiAnalysis currently places Iren in the "Not Recommended / Underperforming" tier of its ClusterMAX rankings, well behind neocloud peers CoreWeave Inc and Nebius Group NV, which hold top-tier Platinum ratings.

Jefferies names 8 tech stock winners from a divided Congress

Jefferies says a divided government may be the best midterm elections outcome for Big Tech players spending massive amounts of money to build out AI infrastructure. In a note on Monday, the Jefferies research team wrote that a split government and prospects for a national AI policy, rather than fragmented state-level rules, should ensure the rapid pace of AI innovation continues, disproportionately benefiting large, scaled players. The firm's biggest tech winners include Amazon, which benefits regardless of which AI model wins through a model agnostic platform approach; Alphabet, which gets more time to catch up in the AI model race with Gemini 4 Pro and beyond; Microsoft, which has the highest trust from enterprises given its pervasive presence in corporate IT shops; Oracle, emerging as the fourth enterprise cloud option with outsized upside if data center permitting and regulatory hurdles ease; CoreWeave, rapidly becoming recognized as a leading alternative to megacap hyperscalers; Snowflake, a top 2 vendor for AI data plumbing; Datadog, as observability becomes paramount; and Meta, on renewed consumer and small business momentum with Muse and Meta Business Agents. The analysts noted the president's party has lost House seats in 18 of 20 postwar midterms, and with Trump's approval near 39% and independents at 24%, they expect a GOP setback. The 2026 midterm elections are coming on Nov. 3, when voters will choose all 435 members of the House and 35 senators. Truist chief strategist Keith Lerner pointed out that every midterm election year since 1946 has been followed by positive one-year stock returns, with the biggest gain a 34% return after the 1954 elections and an average one-year gain of 14.4%.

CoreWeave to Add NVIDIA Vera CPU for AI Agent Workloads

CoreWeave Inc. announced it will expand its compute portfolio with the NVIDIA Vera CPU, the first CPU designed for AI agents, at its Fully Connected AI cloud conference in San Francisco. The company said rack-scale Vera at CoreWeave puts 128 CPUs and 11,264 cores in a single rack, with BlueField-4 DPUs and Spectrum-X Ethernet switching, providing room for more than 11,000 concurrent agent environments. In testing, CoreWeave achieved more than 3x faster agent sandbox startup times on NVIDIA Vera CPU compared to an x86 CPU. Chen Goldberg, executive vice president of product and engineering at CoreWeave, said general-purpose infrastructure bottlenecks agentic AI and that Vera is the first CPU explicitly designed to accelerate it. CoreWeave said NVIDIA Vera runs bare metal under the same platform, consumption models and economics as the rest of its fleet, and is natively enabled through products such as CoreWeave Sandboxes.

Burry Shifts AI Shorts to 2027 Puts as Anthropic IPO Filing Shows $42B Loss

Michael Burry has intensified his bearish positioning on AI, converting several stock shorts into long-dated put options as Anthropic prepares for an IPO that could value the company at more than $2T. Anthropic's confidential IPO prospectus reportedly showed revenue jumping to nearly $4.6B in 2025, roughly twelve times the prior year, alongside a net loss of about $42B and an operating loss exceeding $8B. Burry said he covered common-stock shorts in Micron Technology, Nebius Group, Caterpillar, the iShares Semiconductor ETF, CoreWeave, Nvidia, and Palantir Technologies, replacing most of them with puts extending into 2027, and swapped his Oracle short for December 2027 puts while opening a new short in MetLife using longer-dated puts. He attributed part of the repositioning to tax-loss harvesting but said the majority stemmed from weekend research that convinced him the AI bubble could burst sooner than later, prompting him to move his timelines up and seek more leverage. About $34B of Anthropic's net loss came from an accounting charge tied to the valuation of financing instruments that could eventually convert into shares rather than cash operating expenses, while the company spent $7.33B on compute and infrastructure in 2025 and disclosed $518B in future infrastructure commitments.

Nvidia launches Open Agent Safety to sandbox AI agents and prevent enterprise hacks

Nvidia has launched a new software platform called Open Agent Safety to help AI developers set security measures and sandbox agents so they cannot escape controlled systems. Jensen Huang, chief executive of Nvidia, told CNBC's Squawk Box on Monday that the platform is like a browser for agents, allowing them access only to what they need to do their work. The launch follows disclosures by OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta and Google of incidents in which AI models broke out of simulated environments and tried to hack other companies. Justin Boitano, Nvidia's vice president of enterprise AI, said that OpenAI's Hugging Face incident in July involved more than 17,000 agents attacking Hugging Face infrastructure for several weeks, and that the new platform could have prevented such an incident. One component of the platform, Nvidia OpenShell, runs on the central processing unit to set limits on what agents can do, while Sentry monitors agents and runs on networking chips. Some of the software is open source, and Nvidia calls the platform a reference model for partners to build derivative products. The company named Cisco, Microsoft, Oracle, CoreWeave, Dell, HPE, Lenovo, ARM and Intel as partners, and is also working with Anthropic to integrate cloud-managed agents with OpenShell.

Bond Yield Surge Pressures AI Costs as SoftBank Note Yield Hits 9.75%

Analysts believe the AI sector remains undeterred and is pressing ahead with fundraising, even as the yield on 10-year US Treasuries climbs close to 5.17%, the highest since 2007. JPMorgan Chase estimated in June that companies are likely to take on an additional 4.1 trillion dollars in debt tied to AI investment by 2030. Japan's SoftBank, one of the key financiers for AI projects, raised 11.1 billion dollars this week from the sale of low-rated bonds, with its 7-year notes carrying a yield of as much as 9.75%. CoreWeave, a heavily indebted Neocloud business, said in its latest quarterly earnings report that as of June, every 100 basis point rise in interest rates could add 30 million dollars to its interest expenses. Oracle shares fell 7% this week and are down about 30% since the start of the year, after Bloomberg reported that the company sent a force majeure notice concerning its data center project in New Mexico, known as Project Jupiter, in order to shield itself from rising costs. Despite higher financing costs, demand for AI services continues to grow rapidly. Meta's Muse personal assistant app topped 2.5 million global downloads in its first two weeks and overtook ChatGPT as the most popular app on Apple's App Store. Evercore analyst Mark Mahaney said Muse could reach 100 million users within 6 to 12 months.

Michael Burry Says Trump 'Cannot Afford' to Let AI Boom Fail

Michael Burry argues that the AI sector's success is now just as vital to the U.S. government as it is to the tech giants fueling the surge. The "Big Short" investor said the Trump administration has little room to let the AI boom weaken, arguing that the AI infrastructure buildout has become a critical support for the economy even as he remains bearish on several companies at the center of the trade. "Trump and his team know that the AI narrative and the buildout is the only thing keeping this economy going, and the most positive thing happening this year," Burry wrote in a recent Substack chat, as per Stocktwits, adding, "They cannot afford to let it fall," while questioning what Washington could actually do to prevent a downturn. Burry recently shorted Nvidia, Oracle, Palantir, Nebius, Micron and CoreWeave, and has repeatedly challenged the AI investment narrative, arguing that enormous capital spending might not necessarily translate into durable returns. According to the most recent disclosures, Trump made more than 1,000 trades in July, mostly in tech stocks, selling $5M to $25M each in Microsoft and Amazon before buying back smaller amounts of both, and also trading Oracle, Intuit, Marvell, Salesforce, Meta Platforms, Nvidia, ServiceNow, Workday and Adobe.

JPMorgan Upgrades CoreWeave to Overweight, Raises Price Target to $125

JPMorgan upgraded CoreWeave to Overweight from Neutral and raised its price target to $125 from $120, citing stronger demand and more favorable contract pricing that could lift revenue and margins above prior expectations. Analyst Samik Chatterjee said the favorable pricing backdrop for compute, combined with CoreWeave's incremental willingness to lean into short-term contracts at premium pricing, drove the firm's revenue and margin forecasts higher despite lackluster share price performance tied to investor concerns around capital intensity. JPMorgan noted that CoreWeave adjusted pricing on roughly 25% of its products in July, while competitors including Nebius have implemented frequent increases, and that short-term compute contracts elsewhere can reportedly price at nearly three times CoreWeave's longer-term agreements. Chatterjee also pointed to CoreWeave's August DDTL 5.5 financing as evidence that debt markets are becoming more comfortable with sustained GPU demand. CoreWeave shares rose in premarket trading Thursday following the upgrade.

CoreWeave Partners With Harell Data to Expand AI Training Access

CoreWeave, Inc. has entered a partnership with Harell Data under which Harell Data plans to deploy its platform on CoreWeave Cloud to support AI model training, fine-tuning and inference workloads. The tie-up pairs CoreWeave's GPU infrastructure, including NVIDIA A100 and Hopper GPUs, with Harell Data's "models-to-data" architecture, which lets AI developers use proprietary datasets without directly accessing or extracting the underlying data. The arrangement reflects CoreWeave's strategy of serving as the infrastructure layer beneath specialized AI platforms rather than relying solely on direct relationships with model developers. Competition remains a major limitation, as hyperscalers including AWS, Microsoft Azure and Alphabet's Google Cloud hold enormous GPU infrastructure investments and can offer increasingly sophisticated AI services. CoreWeave shares have slipped 31.4% in the past year compared with a 4.1% fall for the Zacks Internet Software industry, and the Zacks Consensus Estimate for its current-year earnings has been revised downward over the past 60 days.

CoreWeave Earns SemiAnalysis Platinum ClusterMAX Rating for Third Straight Time

CoreWeave has become the only cloud provider to earn SemiAnalysis' Platinum ClusterMAX rating in all three ClusterMAX evaluations to date, the company announced. The SemiAnalysis ClusterMAX Rating System is an independent benchmark for how cloud providers handle large-scale AI workloads; in its latest report, SemiAnalysis found CoreWeave's health checks worked as intended with excellent reliability and that nearly all tests reached expected values out of the box. When the first ClusterMAX rating was published in early 2025, it evaluated roughly two dozen providers and found exactly one Platinum, CoreWeave; when ClusterMAX 2.0 followed later that year, the field had more than tripled to 84 providers and CoreWeave remained the only one at the top. CoreWeave co-founder and chief technology officer Peter Salanki said three straight independent assessments, each against a higher bar and a more crowded field, matter to customers deciding where to run workloads they cannot afford to get wrong, while SemiAnalysis founder and chief executive Dylan Patel called CoreWeave the operational benchmark for the industry. CoreWeave also cited record-breaking MLPerf benchmark results and a number one ranking for inference speed and price-performance for Moonshot AI's Kimi K2.6 in independent inference benchmarking by Artificial Analysis.

CoreWeave Q2 Revenue Jumps 112% to $2.6 Billion as Interest Bill Outpaces Profit

CoreWeave reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of $2.6 billion, up 112% from a year earlier, with a revenue backlog of $104.2 billion, but its interest expense of $640 million ran at roughly five times its adjusted operating income of $128 million. The company raised prices by about 25% across its product lineup in July and says margins on its Vera Rubin systems are at new highs, though neither gain is reflected in the second-quarter numbers. Management guides third-quarter interest of $860 million to $940 million against adjusted operating income of $200 million to $260 million, and expects capital spending of $35 billion to $39 billion in 2026 against revenue guidance of $12.4 billion to $13.2 billion. CoreWeave's adjusted operating margin was 5% in the second quarter, and management expects it to reach the low teens in the fourth quarter, a figure the company says is the number to watch. The stock has declined roughly 33% over the past year while the S&P 500 returned 17.3%.

Nebius Raises GPU Rental Rates, Lifting NBIS 10% and IREN 6% as CoreWeave Slips

Nebius Group notified customers of higher on-demand rental rates for a range of AI GPU capacity effective October 1, a rare same-week read-through on pricing power in AI compute that split the neocloud trade three ways. Nebius stock climbed 10% to $229.67 as the party setting the new price card, while IREN Limited rose 6% to $45.20 on the read-through that scarce GPU capacity can be re-rented at higher hourly rates. CoreWeave slipped 2% to $82.10, with the divergence attributed to concerns over how much of its capacity is already committed at older rates, how much debt sits against that capacity, and how fast free cash flow will turn. The Invesco QQQ Trust was up 1.62% to $716.12, while the Global X Data Center & Digital Infrastructure ETF trailed at up 1% to $27.60, a lag suggesting the diversified digital infrastructure basket is not capturing the neocloud repricing on its own. JPMorgan double-upgraded IREN to Overweight from Underweight on September 14, a call that predates this move by three sessions and serves as context rather than catalyst.
CRWV · Pricing · Negative CoreWeave slipped as Nebius's higher GPU rental rates raised concerns about its capacity already committed at older, lower rates.
IREN · Pricing · Positive IREN rose 6% on the read-through that scarce GPU capacity can be re-rented at higher hourly rates after Nebius's rate hike.
NBIS · Pricing · Positive Nebius climbed 10% as the party setting higher on-demand GPU rental rates effective October 1.

CoreWeave Deploys Multi-Rack NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 Clusters

CoreWeave is expanding its capabilities for next-generation AI workloads with the deployment of multi-rack NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 clusters on CoreWeave Cloud, alongside two new capabilities for its AI Object Storage platform: cross-region write acceleration and a lower-cost Archive tier. The multi-rack Vera Rubin NVL72 deployment allows hundreds of NVIDIA Rubin GPUs to operate as a single scale-out cluster, with each NVL72 rack combining 72 Rubin GPUs with 36 Vera CPUs, NVIDIA NVLink 6, ConnectX-9 SuperNICs and BlueField-4 DPUs, connected across racks using NVIDIA Spectrum-X Ethernet networking and automated through CoreWeave's Mission Control platform. CoreWeave says its Local Object Transport Accelerator caches data locally and can reduce latency by up to 8x compared with traditional storage-cluster reads while delivering up to 7 GB/s of throughput per GPU, while the new cross-region write capability lets customers write data locally as CoreWeave replicates it to another region in the background. The company faces intensifying competition in the AI cloud market from Microsoft and Nebius Group N.V., which plans to invest £1.7 billion in U.K. AI infrastructure and expects connected power capacity to reach roughly 800 MW to 1 GW by 2026 end. CoreWeave shares have gained 24.4% year to date against the Internet Software industry's fall of 0.6%, and the Zacks Consensus Estimate for CRWV's earnings for the current year has been revised downward over the past 60 days.

Blockfusion Signs 15-Year Anchor Lease With CoreWeave at Niagara Falls AI Campus

Blockfusion USA, Inc. announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, North East Data, LLC, has entered into a definitive anchor lease with CoreWeave, Inc. for capacity at Blockfusion's Niagara Falls, New York campus, alongside a companion expansion agreement. The two agreements convert the non-binding letter of intent announced on June 30, 2026, into definitive agreements, and the lease carries a 15-year initial term with two five-year renewal options. Blockfusion has transformed a decommissioned power plant into a low-carbon data center powered predominantly by hydroelectric power and is now adapting the campus for high-density, liquid-cooled AI infrastructure, benefiting from an existing grid interconnection, clean energy and redundant fiber infrastructure. Chief Executive Officer Alex Martini-Lo Manto called the agreement a defining milestone for Blockfusion and strong validation of the Niagara Falls campus, while Mayor Robert Restaino said the commitment creates opportunities for residents and businesses. The agreements also mark a step in Blockfusion's proposed business combination with Blue Acquisition Corp., which is expected to result in Blockfusion Digital Infrastructure, Inc. becoming a publicly traded company listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market under the ticker symbol BDI, with additional information to be included in an amendment to the registration statement on Form S-4 filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Situational Awareness Fund Bets Big on AMD Options After Near-Collapse

Situational Awareness, the hedge fund formed by ex-OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner, is buying call options on Advanced Micro Devices, Bloom Energy, CoreWeave, SK Hynix and SanDisk, returning to the strategy that nearly sank it earlier this year. The fund has bought hundreds of millions of dollars in option premiums, according to GuruFocus. Situational Awareness generated a 439% net return from the beginning of the year through June 30, briefly making it one of the best-performing large funds of 2026, but it was operating at around four times leverage when AI stocks turned in July, and its portfolio declined by about 67 percent, forcing it to sell off its AI assets. Citadel swooped in a day later to buy much of the public-equity holdings. The new stock picks span processors, cloud computing, memory and electricity, some of the main bottlenecks in the AI buildout.

Fed Rate Hike Odds Near 90% as CoreWeave and IREN Face Diverging Rate Risks

Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan expect the Federal Reserve to raise rates 25 basis points this week, with futures pricing roughly a 90% probability, a move that would hit capital-intensive AI infrastructure companies differently. CoreWeave carries direct floating-rate exposure through its newest $2.6 billion delayed-draw facility, which charges Term SOFR plus 5.50%, while it continues a 2026 capex program of $35 billion to $39 billion against a roughly $104 billion backlog. CoreWeave's own sensitivity analysis shows that, based on its June 30 floating-rate debt, a 100-basis-point increase would have added roughly $61 million to six-month interest expense, implying roughly $15 million of additional six-month interest expense from a 25-basis-point parallel increase at that exposure. IREN Limited has increasingly used fixed-rate or hedged project-specific financing, including facilities tied to contracted deployments, and its $9.7 billion Microsoft agreement and $3.4 billion Nvidia contract reduce demand risk on current capacity, but management has discussed up to $30 billion of investment by mid-2027, leaving future expansion exposed to higher refinancing costs. By Q2 2026, Insider Monkey tracked 71 hedge funds holding CoreWeave, up from 63 in Q1, with Magnetar Capital holding 52,062,927 shares after cutting 25%, while IREN rose to 69 holders from 53 as Value Aligned Research Advisors increased its position 78% to 8,467,327 shares. At the August 31 settlement, 93,610,835 IREN shares were sold short, equal to 25.01% of float, with 2.06 days to cover.

CRWV · Monetary · Negative A near-certain 25bp Fed rate hike raises interest costs on CoreWeave's floating-rate $2.6B delayed-draw facility (SOFR+5.50%), adding roughly $15M of six-month interest expense.
IREN · Monetary · Neutral IREN's shift to fixed-rate/hedged project financing limits near-term rate-hike pain, but up to $30B of future investment leaves expansion exposed to higher refinancing costs.

AI-Related Debt Sales Near $500 Billion as Meta and CoreWeave Face Divergent Financing Risks

AI-related debt issuance reached nearly $500 billion by early August, about one-fifth of higher-rated U.S. issuance this year versus roughly 1% in 2024, according to Reuters Breakingviews. Meta Platforms and CoreWeave sit at opposite ends of that financing spectrum, with Meta able to borrow against its advertising cash flow while CoreWeave borrows against the build. CoreWeave ended Q2 with about $104 billion of backlog, spent $9.4 billion on capex in the quarter, and its newest $2.6 billion facility carries SOFR plus 5.50%. At the end of Q2 2026, Insider Monkey tracked 254 hedge funds holding Meta, down from 262 in Q1, while CoreWeave rose to 71 holders from 63. At August 31, 55,568,683 CoreWeave shares were sold short, 15.98% of float, with 2.66 days to cover, and CoreWeave also had $6.6 billion of 1.75% convertible senior notes outstanding across its 2031 and 2032 issues.

CRWV · Capital · Negative CoreWeave's AI build is financed with expensive debt (new $2.6B facility at SOFR+5.50%, $6.6B converts) and heavy capex, exposing it to elevated financing risk versus Meta's cash-flow-backed borrowing.
META · Capital · Positive Meta sits at the favorable end of AI-related debt issuance, able to borrow against its advertising cash flow rather than against the build, lowering its financing risk.

CoreWeave Falls 6% After Bernstein Warns Slower AI Training Could Hit Data-Center Demand

CoreWeave shares fell 6% Monday after Bernstein warned in an investor note that slower artificial intelligence model training could pressure data-center demand. Analyst Maidson Rezaei said facilities in rural and Tier 3 markets could face greater pressure because many were developed around training workloads that are less sensitive to network latency. Bernstein estimates about 70% of a 488-gigawatt U.S. data-center development pipeline sits in rural or Tier 3 areas, and CoreWeave holds about 25% of its active U.S. power and roughly 74% of contracted power in Tier 3 and Tier 4 markets. The firm said CoreWeave's existing backlog is largely supported by take-or-pay agreements, which may limit near-term risk, though demand for contracted capacity not yet sold could weaken if training activity slows. Equinix, Digital Realty Trust and Csquare may be less exposed because most of their capacity is in metropolitan markets; Bernstein rates CoreWeave Underperform with a $74 target and assigns Outperform ratings to the other three.

Fed Set to Decide on Rate Hike at September 16 Meeting

The Federal Reserve will announce its policy decision on Sept. 16, with expectations of a rate hike amid elevated inflation and CPI prices. Kevin Gordon, Head of Macro Research and Strategy at the Schwab Center for Financial Research, said a 25 basis point increase would not resolve supply issues but warned that without a monetary policy response, inflation risks running away and inflation expectations could stay elevated. He noted that PPI components mapping to PCE do not yet convince that inflation is on a durable path back to 2%. Yahoo Finance Senior Business Reporter Ines Ferré said gasoline and diesel prices are at record highs for this time of year, and noted Goldman Sachs now expects the Fed to cut rates next. Gil, speaking about client concerns, said higher rates raise the discount rate on long-duration equities, pressuring tech and growth stocks, and would make debt-financed data center buildouts by CoreWeave and Oracle more expensive, slowing the AI complex.
