Summary · why it matters

Atlan announced the general availability of its Microsoft Fabric connector, including new OneLake interoperability for its Iceberg-native Context Lakehouse, at FabCon Europe in Barcelona. The connector, with version 2.0 shipped in August 2026, catalogs Fabric workspaces, lakehouses, warehouses, semantic models, reports, dashboards, dataflows, and data pipelines down to the table and column level, and extracts end-to-end lineage from upstream external SQL sources through semantic models to reports and visuals. Through the OneLake integration, Atlan's context tables are stored natively in Apache Iceberg in open tables the customer owns in OneLake, so that context can be queried directly from Microsoft Fabric rather than copied into another store. Atlan said it is also designing an integration to bring unstructured content from across Microsoft's ecosystem into its enterprise context layer, and is working toward a one-click integration between OneLake and its Context Lakehouse. The connector is generally available to Atlan customers today, and Atlan is available in the Microsoft Marketplace and is Microsoft Azure co-sell eligible.

Maloney previously served as Vice President of Federal at Rubrik, began his career as a Federal Civilian Program Manager at the Department of War, and built and led teams at ServiceNow and DataRobot. BDI Enters Its Fourth Year, Championing Data Backbone to Extend ThaiLLM and AI Workforce

The Big Data Institute, or BDI, under the supervision of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, has unveiled its operational direction as it enters its fourth year, aiming to elevate the country's data infrastructure so that it is interconnected and genuinely usable, alongside extending the Thai-language artificial intelligence technology ThaiLLM and developing the Data and AI workforce. Mr. Kulit Sombatsiri, Chairman of the Big Data Institute, disclosed at the event BDI Day 2026: Big Data for a Resilient Thailand that the Prime Minister's Office Regulation on Digital Data Sharing B.E. 2569 and the Strategic Plan for Driving the Utilization of Big Data B.E. 2568-2570 will serve as key mechanisms in establishing a framework for systematically linking government data. BDI aims to become the National Data Backbone through the Data Integration and Intelligence Platform, or D2, a platform for linking and analyzing big data and part of the National Data Backbone, to support systematic, standards-based and security-conscious data sharing among agencies. Professor Dr. Theeranee Achalakul, Director of the Big Data Institute, said that the operational direction for B.E. 2570 under the concept Data Backbone for a Resilient Thailand, connecting data to be ready for the future, will focus on developing mechanisms so that data from various agencies can be linked, exchanged and used for decision-making efficiently. It will also press ahead with projects that apply Data and AI to real-world problems, namely Travel Link, Health Link, Envi Link and PD Link, as well as workforce development through a Micro-credential approach, the THackle project and Hackathon activities. On the artificial intelligence front, BDI plans to further develop ThaiLLM in B.E. 2570, aiming to elevate the Thai language model to cover more of the country's contexts, including gathering dialect data, making it easier to access and experiment with, and developing benchmarks for data extraction and personal data detection, which ties into the concept of AI Sovereignty. The event also featured the presentation of a draft action plan for developing the national artificial intelligence ecosystem for B.E. 2570-2575 under the vision Intelligent Nation – Built. Trusted. Useful, which emphasizes four pillars: infrastructure, trustworthiness, workforce development and value creation from AI.

DE Ministry opens 3 online reporting channels linked to IDMP to handle disasters

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, or DE, has opened three main channels for online incident reporting: Jitasa Care, Traffy Fondue, and the Jaeng Rat system, aiming to reduce data duplication and speed up disaster management. All three channels connect to the Integrated Disaster Management Platform, or IDMP, developed by the DE Ministry through the Digital Government Development Agency, or DGA, and the Big Data Institute, or BDI, together with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation under the Ministry of Interior. The platform links systems covering everything from disaster warnings and receiving reports of distress to mobilising rescue volunteers, evacuating people to shelters, and registering for compensation payments. Most of the systems are already operational, with only the disaster management and administration system still integrating data. Chaichanok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, said after attending a meeting of the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command on 8 October 2026 that the ministry had assigned National Telecom Public Company Limited, or NT, and telecom operators to prepare primary communications systems, backup systems, and emergency systems in the southern region. NT and Thailand Post Company Limited were also told to prepare vehicles, high-lift trucks, and communications systems to support assistance for people nationwide. Arada Luengwilai, Deputy Director and Acting Director of the DGA, said the disaster warning system and the compensation registration system had already been used during the flood incident in Nan Province and in the current situation in Bangkok. The rescue volunteer system has more than 29,000 registrants nationwide and has been used in Nan Province and Sa Kaeo Province, where 554 volunteers registered and about 119 actually took part in operations. Professor Dr. Theeranee Achalakul, Director of the BDI, said the BDI developed a Data Hub system to link incident report data from multiple systems. It is currently connected to Traffy Fondue, Jitasa Care, and Jaeng Rat, and is in the process of connecting to the 1784 safety hotline of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation in order to gather data, verify it, and reduce duplication before producing standardised datasets and a Dashboard both during incidents and after relief operations.
