Every file, every photo, every AI model in the world has to "sleep" somewhere — on giant storage systems inside a data center. This business was once seen as the most boring corner of IT, until AI changed everything: a pricey GPU chip just sits there idle if storage can't feed it data fast enough. So storage went from "backup closet" to the "feed conveyor" of the AI era — and pushed both old hard drives and new flash into shortage at the same time.

Evercore upgrades NetApp to Outperform, raises price target to $300
Evercore upgraded NetApp to Outperform from In Line on Wednesday, with analyst Amit Daryanani raising his price target to $300 from $210. Shares rose 1.6% in premarket trading. Daryanani wrote that NetApp's roughly 17% FY27 revenue-growth guide leaves meaningful room for upside, with Q1 actuals plus the Q2 guide midpoint implying first-half growth of about 26% before decelerating to only about 9% in the second half, and even excluding Q1's extra week first-half growth remains about 24%. He said a return toward more traditional second-half seasonality and continued conversion of larger AI opportunities could support low-20% FY27 growth, and that NetApp could earn as much as $15 per share or more in the long run as its core storage business expands on double-digit revenue growth driven by artificial intelligence. The analyst also noted NetApp could lift EBIT margins by passing along rising NAND prices to customers, bringing gross margins to the high-60% range, while its total addressable market expands beyond traditional storage, supporting a path toward $11-12 of FY27 EPS and ultimately $15+ of EPS power.

Jabil shares jumped 4.8% in afternoon trading after Akamai Technologies authorized the electronics manufacturing services provider to buy approximately $1.7 billion of memory components on Akamai's behalf. Akamai disclosed the authorization in a filing, saying the purchase supports capital spending tied to its expanded agreement with Anthropic, which now totals $11.6 billion of contractual commitment over seven years. Akamai said capital spending tied to that commitment is about $5.5 billion, and that 2026 capital spending would rise by about $1.7 billion to pre-purchase components, including memory. Jabil was already Akamai's contract manufacturer under a 2019 agreement, and the filing does not say how much of the $1.7 billion Jabil keeps. After the initial pop, the shares cooled to $319.80, up 2.9% from the previous close.
Dell Shares Rise 4% as Morgan Stanley Lifts Odds on $756 Bull Case
Dell Technologies shares climbed 4% Friday after Morgan Stanley raised the probability attached to its $756 bull-case scenario following a meeting with Chief Operating Officer Jeff Clarke, while leaving its Neutral rating and $511 target unchanged. The shift centers on whether AI spending represents another hardware replacement cycle or a broader expansion in infrastructure demand. Clarke told the brokerage that AI agents could drive inference-token usage 87 times higher by 2030, potentially creating additional demand for computing capacity. Morgan Stanley's unchanged base-case valuation means the note did not alter its formal recommendation, but the higher probability assigned to the more optimistic scenario gave investors another data point as they assess whether Dell's AI infrastructure growth can persist beyond the current spending cycle.

Western Digital Seen 41% Overvalued Ahead of Earnings, Fair Value Pegged at $329.76
Western Digital heads into an upcoming earnings release with its most followed narrative pegging fair value at $329.76, which sits well below the last close at $464.60 and presents the recent share price surge as rich rather than cheap. That narrative implies the stock is 41% overvalued, even as the company draws expectations for year-over-year gains in both profit and revenue and carries a Zacks Rank of #2. The shares have been punchy in the short term, with a 3.67% one-day share price return and a 12.78% seven-day share price return at that last close of US$464.60, though the 90-day share price return declined 27.84%, while the 1-year total shareholder return is very large and the 5-year total shareholder return is roughly 10x. A separate multiples view paints a different picture: on a P/E of 18x, the stock trades well below its fair ratio of 45.9x and under the 37.7x peer average. The story could still break if hyperscaler AI spending cools faster than expected or if new HDD capacity tilts the market back toward oversupply.
IBM Places z17 Mainframe in Marist University AI Incubator
IBM has placed its z17 system at the heart of Marist University's new AI Innovation Incubator, giving students and researchers hands-on access to enterprise-grade computing infrastructure. The incubator could tackle projects ranging from autonomous marketing agents and AI-enhanced polling to quantum-assisted portfolio allocation, with IBM supplying the z17 and opening up the same class of high-volume, security-focused infrastructure it sells to large enterprises. No commercial value was disclosed, so the deployment is less about an immediate revenue win and more about putting IBM technology directly into the hands of future developers, researchers and enterprise decision-makers. IBM shares were nearly flat at $231.70 on Tuesday, sitting 4.58% below the $242.82 GF Value estimate. The payoff from Marist will not appear as a big contract today, but reusable applications, stronger recruiting pipelines and broader institutional adoption could turn a relatively small academic deployment into something more valuable over time.
